Eorl is Eomer's great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather!

Hummm...I count Eomer as the 18th generation from Eorl. That would make Eorl the great (times 15) grandpappy of Eomer.
Would you give a hint as to the relationship you are looking for in your answer?

Eorl->Brego->Aldor->Frea->Freawine
->Goldwine->Deor->Gram->Helm's sister (Hild?)->Frealaf->Brytta/Leofa->Walda ->Folca->Folcwine->Fengel->Thengel ->Theodwyn->Eomer That makes Eomer the sixteenth generation after Eorl. |

Oops, I said Eomer was 18 generations after Eorl. I should have said that 18 generations were represented counting these two.
Eomer was actually 17 generations from Eorl, not 16 as you said. Since, Eomer is the 17th after Eorl; Eorl would be Eomer's 15xgreat grandfather.

Eomer was a direct descendant of Eorl, just not always through the male line.

Well... when the Second and Third Lines of the Kings of the Mark began, they began with the nephew of the prior king. However, their mothers were sisters of the prior king, daughters of the king before that. So, they were in the direct line descending from Eorl.
Or, do you have different information? Or, are you thinking of something else entirely?

Nirvana, you are wrong. Eomer's mother, Theodwyn, was the daughter of king Thengel.

Yeah...(victory dance)
I don't mean to belabor the point...but I still count Eomer as the 17th generation after Eorl. (moves gracefully on) What is Gloredhel to Rian?

I just realized I thought of the wrong person. *Hits self* That should have been Elladan/Elrohir/Arwen, and not Elrond. *Hits self again* Well, since they are only related in one way, and you got it, I'll give it to you. *Smacks self really hard*

Be calm, NightKnight, I'm sure we'll forgive you.
(yeah right...) Anyway, name Gil-galad's (male) cousin's father's wife's brother's father's half-brother's wife's father. And I hope you have as much fun working it out as I did making it up. *innocent smile*

It was actually fun.
So, who was Agarwaen's "stepfather"'s brother's daughter's husband?

Umm, I was looking for second cousins, but that is the same thing as Perky Ent's "Brandir's great uncle is Turin's Grandfather!" So whoever posts the next question first can carry on.

There were two Dáins. If you mean Dáin I then he is Gimli's great-great-great-uncle. If you mean Dáin II Ironfoot then they are 3rd cousins once removed.

You're right, but only if you tell me what once removed means!

It has to do with generations. So Glóin and Dáin are third cousins, and Gimli being Glóin's son is once removed.
