If it isn't just a metaphorical riddle, I would say Piosenniel, for all her efforts in our RPG's. Managing the Shire-Roleplayers is hard work, and I should know, I'm one of 'em!

All my guesses are connected to the eternity of the PTs.

Gil-Galad is the immortal psyche.

Nogrod is the unperishable flame. The flame that labours mightly creating. And a flame needs to "draw breath" from air, but since there is no air to that flame, it should "lose its breath".

Finwe is part GG, part Nogrod...

The 'labour mightily' part is much more down-to-earth and stereotypical than immortality and all that.

A real worker.

The 'breath' part is just an amusing thought that may come from literal reading.

Oh sorry. Piosenniel because of all her work on the rpg forums. But apparently not.

How about Glirdan of the "Energetic Essence"? Maybe not much of a guess, but after 6 pages of titles, nothing else seems remotely like. (Elempi shrugs)

I thought the 'stonehearted' bit raised interesting questions about the character's circulation; and, of course, no-one labours harder than dwarven smiths.

I was tempted into trying Boromir as well...also Fingolfin...but those both fought, and they both died because they fought and lost, but also becasue they didn't run. And yet, part of the clue is that it's not because they fought and lost... Gandalf seemed to be the only reasonable answer. I'll try again though...do more thinking.
