Finally
PRAISE: Give them this.
OLIPHAUNT: He doesn't fib. EARENDIL: He is above the world, literally. MAID: An unmarried woman, she. THEODEN: Much to Robb's chagrin, he could be called 'King in the North' too. IN: Just a preposition. TOWER: A building that is also a boat. LADS: Young boys, they. ELBERETH: Wife of the God King. SHIRE: A place of peace and joy. Over to you.

1. Sometimes he's even called this. What larks!

It isn't, I'm afraid.
A lot of the answers are just Elvish words. That should make it easier.

#7: "mount, this" -- ie, ORO, a Quenya word for a mountain or hill. Using the R in the password.
#9: if he's lost a painter, he's just a mime. If he's lost a direction too, he becomes MIM. Have looked at Mount Pelion but even Shakespeare is not helping me this time. hS

I have to wonder why are you explaining to us something we already know? I mean, if we give those answers, it's clear we figured out the cryptic element. We're not stupid, so please stop doing it every time...

Anyway, the D one is KUDUK, from KODAK, so there is no need for you to explain the obvious again.

No, actually, it isn't always. It's courtesy to just give a brief mention of how you worked out the answer. I usually do. And to realise that explanations are for the benefit of everyone, not just the person who guessed the answer.

Or maybe ESSE, if you interpret 'Christ had deserted' as simply removing the cross, or X, from the county of ESSEX.

#1 could be PIP(pin); I guess he engages in larks (or maybe lark = bird = peregrine). Then the I, I think "all in Quenya" is the straightest of straight clue and the answer is just ILLI (similar to Ilu- in Iluvatar). I'm not sure where the coffee comes in though.

'I'm generally just called Pippin, or even Pip.' - LOTR. 'What larks, Pip!' - Joe Gargery to Pip, the hero of 'Great Expectations.' ILLY is a make of coffee - in the 'made and served in a café' sense, I think. I've seen adverts for it. And over to Urwen.

1. Usually the omens of death, but also helpful.
2. Article precedes twisted destruction. There they are. 3. Two different kinds, known by this single name. 4. Dwellings made of cloth are missing a head, for them. 5. Whether six legged or eight legged, they will eat you.

#4: Tents - T = ENTS?
#1: Could this be RAVENS? They are ominous, but Roäc son of Carc was a handy translator on the slopes of the Lonely Mountain. hS

2. Ainur (a + ruin).
5. Spiders? Password: RACES? 3. I'd say CALAQUENDI, but they are from 3 divisions of elves. Plus Thingol, I think.

If #3 is a C, then it could be CHILDREN OF ILUVATAR, for both Elves and Men. (Elves being just as racist as Gondorians, the dwarves don't get that title despite their adoption by the One.)
I remember Tolkien messed up Shelob's anatomy somehow, but when did he give them six legs? hS

I especially liked the RAVENS clue, Urwen.
Here's one I made a while ago: 1. Poet hailed Queen Victoria in confusion? 2. Steamy and hot! Stir it well for her, and extract nothing. 3. Shift around raven country to arrive here? 4. Roast rat!? In consternation, find him! 5. Why, we ask, does she disturb the famous water? 6. Are they rhymefully quarrelin' under its branches? 7. Mud spelled backwards, according to the Harvard Lampoon.

It refers to a chapter of something written by the Harvard Lampoon.
