Well La ronde is French for round / circle ..... usually in the context of romantic relationships where everyone inconveniently loves someone other than the person who loves them.... I can remember the plot of "Andromaque" ten year on because that particular chain was so imprinted on my brain "Orestes loves Hermione who loves Phyrrus who loves Andromache who loves Hector who is dead... (and so can't complete the circle..untidy swine) ...they all ended up killing each other - happy little tale..
Quote:
That isn't so much a circle as a mutual admiration society....

Ah, this is an amusing thread... a wee bit creepy, but amusing nonetheless.
I must admit I don't really stalk. I occasionally check to see who's on, or I'll check someone's profile to see what threads they've started or what they're doing... well, I guess that is somewhat stalker-ish! But I don't do it all the time... ::glances around suspiciously:: |

Spmfc?
Eeek! Sleepy Ranger's new signature makes me feel somewhat stalked!
Seriously, I am honoured, Sleepy, albeit slightly mystified as to what I have done to deserve the honour (particularly as I was absent from the Downs throughout much of the last month).

SpM, I reckon that must be thanks to mostly attractive looks of yours, as seen in your new avatar . Or maybe it is your past overtaking you! Not to stray off topic, let me confess I too do stalk you at times. Confiteor

I'll be a bit off topic here and say that I missed your old avatar, Sauce.
And to go back on topic, I'll admit that I stalk...I stalk...*sigh* I can't say it. |

For me it's not really any one, or specific number of people. There's more of a randomness too it, can't explain it, other then to say "boy let's see who I should stalk today." I'll just see how many people are viewing the Books Forum, Novices and Newcomers...etc, then see who is viewing it and, what thread they are viewing, so it has this randomness to it.

I've spent much of my day here (the longest period ever online!), and I did nothing but stalking I came upon several threads, (I mean, that interested me, I came upon lot of threads in general) I proclaim online stalking good thing!

just to add a complimentary note though: i have been checking out the photo thread of some BDr's and I must say that Tolkien geeks have come a long way! OMG in my day there was nothing but red eyed pimply faced dorks hovering around the D&D table. fun but lonely.... Last edited by drigel; 02-04-2005 at 09:09 AM. |

Another good old thread.
Helen wasn't the original incarnation of this thread yours? You've always been the number one stalker on the Downs, methinks. Although after this list hits, I may be number 2. *blush*
I will admit to stalking davem, Saucy, littlemanpoet and Fordim through the Books forum. I also look out for Lhunardawen. In the Quiz room I follow Firefoot, Nilpaurion, and Lindolirian. In the RPGs I stalk players in my game-to-be mercilessly: littlemanpoet, alaklondewen, Regin Hardhammer, Meneltarmacil, Himaran, Nilpaurion - again!, and (my startlingly talented younger brother) TomBrady12. Also Child and Pio. In Mirth I look up and take notice if Saucy, Boromir88 or Eomer of the Rohirrim have been talking, and of course if BW pipes up. He's interesting even when closing rogue threads. And the man to watch in the Barrow-Downs is the immortal HerenIstarion himself. And when I'm bored or looking for good old threads... I also stalk the spiders. *gasps* I'm a stalkaholic! Sophia

I do sometimes stalk The Barrow-Wight himself, going so far as to look up 'threads started by The Barrow-Wight'. Let me share with you my discoveries:

I do stalk Mr. Wight for his posts are oft educational and now and again humorous. Besides, eating one's vitamin-rich greens and following one's Admin's advice will do one good, I believe cheers

Thanks Nim, I feel desired now. More so.

I'd stalk the elusive Mister Underhill if I could catch the bloke while he's logged on...
And what's with the "replying to thread" or "viewing thread"? Which thread?

I've noticed that too, mark. How do they expect us to stalk them, when they won't let us know where they are? It lowers me to waiting in the main forum and refreshing until a new post shows up...

Isn't that brilliant fun? Just watching the screen until something new happens. Especially if you make a provocative post; just sit back and take bets on who's going to reply first.
Not really stalking one person; more keeping your eyes on everyone.

You stalk me, Fea? Wow, I feel so loved!
I always check out threads that Child starts because they're sure to be intriguing. And when I see BW has posted somewhere my first thought is "another one bites the dust"... but it's not always so. I'm always curious, though... |

Enca, I do that too! Whenever I see that the Wight has posted I rub my hands in glee at the thought of another Downer being reprimanded.
It's sick, I know...

The counselors Stalkaholics Anonymous (who, by the way, always barge in with advice and suggestions without being asked, but still loudly demand payment) heartily agree that lurking about in the shadows, hoping to watch somebody else get pummeled is not a healthy way to spend one's time. It is a far more efficient to create mischief on one's own, that way one can experience the pummeling first hand. (psst...does anybody else check the member list to see if Squatter has been online or posted anything recently?) Our bill is in the mail.

A couple of days ago I noticed that Squatter was online and just about choked on my sandwich in excitement.
I also tend to notice when Saucepan Man, Fea, Mithalwen, Lalwende and Sophia among others are on because that usually means that there's a Hot Thread active somewhere... And I know I'm paranoid Kuru; it doesn't mean that they're not out to get me. Seriously though, I have been stalking a hell of a lot more than I used to. You are all very bad influences on me.
