No. N is the second letter.
That's what's meant by the fox being the only one 'not on secondment.'

Well, a quick one, maybe
1. A monetary expression, or a Weasley, for him. 2. Bugs, synonymously, for them. 3. Aredhel, minus two directions (at tail), produces this 4. Consume (in a swirl), or drink this. 5. Steed of the unfortunate, or a bothersome insect, rearranged.

BILL: A monetary expression, or a Weasley, for him.
2. Bugs, synonymously, for them. 3. Aredhel, minus two directions (at tail), produces this TEA: Consume (in a swirl), or drink this. 5. Steed of the unfortunate, or a bothersome insect, rearranged. No to the rest. Most of the clues are related to real life things.

Here we go, then:
1. Shoe loses two pronouns, we 'ear, to reveal it. (4) 2. He describes what a bad rider did, with a pencil top in the exact middle? (2) 3. Elemental trochee reveals him. (4) 4. Illuminated anapaest - see him! (3) 5. Caviar and chicken mingle with a wherefore and lose their way for him? (4) 6. A German dwelling, a fricative, a note and a liquid unite. One of them slightly mingles for him. (6) 7. Mixed up lady in an inverted lens - dehydrated? See him! (1)

It's been a while, but I'm gonna pretend my brain is functioning again...
#5: Roe + hen + y, -... well, either an R, E, or N for a direction. It comes quite close to making ROHERYN, losing the E, but then "a wherefore" needs to be RY / YR, which I can't quite make fit. Also, (4) wouldn't indicate either the spelling or the book/chapter he's in (though could be 'what was the last Age he lived in), and, er... I don't know that Roheryn is even a male horse. hS
