Wow, cool. I think this is only the second Password I've ever got.
Here's my new one: 1. Oh Lord, what a holy song! 2. The G-Message loses two points and gets confused but stays anyway. 3. There is a tough man in most riders of the North. 4. Wanna-be Dragonslayer was a chicken! 5. Half an archer makes us blind. 6. The Master Smith is a Demon. 7. Captured Hobbit. 8. A man born inside a forest. Well, I hope it's not too easy or too hard. Good luck!

1. Ents - Guardians sent hither and thither.
2. Stone of the Hapless - One that took her whom he shouldn't as lover With the one who bore him, do I cover. 3. Gwindor - Like roaring wind or waves he charged and fought. 4. Angrist - Beheaded fellow, with grain for Sandyman, made a damaged weapon. 5. Ravenhill - Professor Spooner remembered this place as Shelter-Brook, though in truth one may be visited by birds there. 6. Orcrist - Alternatively that Old English poem would make a mighty sword. 7. Thingol - "Nothing old can stay," as the poet said, and so he proved. 8. Hithaeglir - Eighth lair about the mighty peaks.

Turambar is "the one" referred to in the first line, but the answer is the one who speaks "I cover".

The final clues solved
1: Ents
3: Gwindor. "Like roaring wind or waves...". He did indeed fight at the Nirnaeth Arnoediad. 6: Orcrist. Crist (Christ) is actually three poems, which cover major episodes in Christ's involvement with mankind: the Advent, the Ascension and the Day of Judgement. Christ I, actually a number of separate lyrics, may have been written by the poet Cynewulf; Christ II is signed by him, and Christ III has been argued to be his work, although this is a bone of scholarly contention.

All correct, and thanks for the info on Crist. Crist, I believe, is where Tolkien saw the word earendel and was inspired to write a poem about the voyage of Earendil.
