I thought the Valar were the 7 queens and 7 lords, plus Melkor.

It's a name for Varda. Look at her page in Notion club and you'll find it.

ORGOF: Renounce him in disarray.
TARI: She is endlessly angry, and backward. HIRAZI: A greeting around a broken ornamental plate, for her. EDDENIL: A cave within a meandering flower, for him. RANUIN: Scattered sodium reveals him. NURON: Reversed part of speech surrounds a way, for him AEREL: A befuddled Shakespearean king surrounds direction, for her. MORLIN: A muddled youngster finds a way, for him. ELESTIRNE: A confused elver finds commotion, briefly, north-east. See her. SHOGLIC: Silence. Muddled reasoning leads to him. And it's finally done. Over to you.

What is the ornamental plate, though? I can't find that as a definition of 'razi.'
I'll post a new puzzle shortly.

I had some vague memory of that being the case. When I realized otherwise, it was too late to switch.

Here you go:
1. Aragorn, Legolas and Eomer’s preferred mode of transport. 2. A Maia loses his way. Empty inkwell initially, and in confusion, here. 3. Trotsky swallows a little woman – and a little rum – to produce this. 4. He’s stuck in the middle of Britain, without an editor. 5. Here are twisted conduits and, we hear, a greater portion of seabird. 6. Here is a citrus-flavoured quadruped? Sounds like it! 7. PLC equivalent here, with an article in the middle, reveals him. 8. Here’s complicated trigonometry! Such a bore - send it back!

1. Not... van
3. LEBETHRON = Leon + Beth + R Beth is getting quite popular for a shy little woman. Maybe next time I do a password I should figure out how to give her sisters a chance.

Tolkien's own words. I haven't excluded Meg, Jo and Amy on purpose. I just haven't needed those letters yet. Three of the sisters are little women in the cryptic sense as well as the 'book' sense.

#4... UK + glued - Ed = UGLUK?
Are we looking at VOLUME II here? If so, that suggests #2 might be built around Olorin or Osse for the Maia... not getting anywhere on the empty inkwell, though. hS |

And could the first I be INCANUS - INC (similar to plc after a company) + indefinite article AN + US, either the USA as the host for the Downs, or 'us' as in 'we're here'. (Or indeed 'us' = in the middle, as in 'stuck in the middle with you'; that one's a bit of a stretch.)

Incanus: all elements correct. The US refers to 'here' because it's 'here' (in the United States) that what's known as a PLC company in the UK is called 'incorporated' and has INC after its name. Is the Downs hosted by the USA? Do you mean this style of bulletin board was created in the USA, or is Barrow-Wight, who I believe owns and runs this forum, American? G55, is INC used in Canada too after the name of a company, or do Canada use a different word and abbreviation?

I think you'll solve the O clue without too much trouble if you work backwards.

Ltd is the opposite. We have Ltd too.
A PLC is owned (or partially owned) by shareholders. It stands for Public Limited Company. A limited company (LTD) doesn't have shareholders and is privately owned. I think that's correct. I know virtually nothing about business. But I did once work for a company that was bought and taken over by another, bigger company, because the shareholders voted for that.

So far I almost made Eomer out of Orome - then realized you need a place and a Maia, Lorien out of Olorin - then realized it's mostly in the wrong volume, Rauros out of Sauron - which has no reasonable explanation, Osgiliath simply because Osse, and Artano turned into Ontario. It's been a backwards progression from the more logical to the more ridiculous. And none of them have what I believe the empty inkwell is meant to add. But I have time.

There aren't that many places that start with O in TTT. I can only come up with 2 that are actually predominantly TTT things.
There is a limited number of male Maiar with names that contain O. So why is it so difficult to match them together? And where is the Empty Inkwell??? It's not present in anything I come up with.

'Empty' and 'inkwell' are separate elements.
The O I am looking for is *mentioned* in TTT. And not, as far as I am aware, in the other two volumes. And Galadriel, you've already mentioned the Maia I'm looking for.

This is entirely too cryptic for me! But, is the last part of the remaining clue Morgul - from more gull - and the M therefore Minas Morgul?

That one was fun (though I was stuck looking for words with 'maze' in them for that last one, nice one Kath!). This one, er... I dunno, hopefully will be?
1. - Eldest son of the Urals with a little doll? Not I! 2. - Far Harad? Shelob's lair? Where it all began? Maybe, but the direction is secondary. 3. - I risk many things, but only the first four blossom. 4. - The middle of a funeral bell, a squashed door, the beginning of booze - is Luthien on the beach? 5. - Bein sei (east); dig deep and reverse it. 6. - Not you or I, but a choice of letters all the same. Pick a dwarf (doesn't matter which; you're in second place). 7. - Stand her on her head! Indeed, Bergil's threat applies here, to bad Roman Virginia. Fair warning - one of these doesn't exactly have a cryptic clue, one isn't entirely precise, and one does something very odd to find its letter. And there's at least one awful pun. hS |

1. RUSSANDOL
Of the Urals = RUSSIAN. Not I = remove the I. DOL = small doll. Russandol = Maedhros, eldest son of Feanor and Nerdanel. ... Hope Kath will stick around and join in some more! She's the only passworder I've met in 'real' life, although I think I've been in the same room as Mith at a Tolkien event. A wild, early guess at REVENGE for the password? ... With a very slightly less wild guess at EAST for the second clue? (Oh, it doesn't fit with revenge ... but revenge is probably wrong anyway).

And not RED HEAD or RED HAIR either, for the password? (Unlikely, as you drew attention to the first term, but worth a shot nonetheless).

Could 4 be NELDORETH?
