Hmm. The rep system can, it seem, be rather problematic when certain sun-lulled or sleepy Downers try to add to a reputation...and send off the wrong type of rep. Negative where positive was meant and vice-versa. It has happened to me once before (although the rep didn't carry any points: I was rather amused when I got such a positive comment beside a negative reputation ) and I, ah, I may have just done it to someone else...wrong button....*winces*

Well, I was perusing this thread a bit and I found some gems:

Now that I've been back for a few days, I've found that, unless I see this thread, giving someone a reputation upgrade (or downgrade) hardly ever crosses my mind. If they make a good post, I say in the thread, "Great post!" and if it's really spectacular, I'll send them a private message to continue the discussion. If it isn't such a great post, I've found that I just kind of ignore it and move on.
I think part of it is that I don't want to give an anonymous rep, but at the same time, I'm rather shy at the thought of giving a comment along with it. I never have anything witty to say, and I don't want to send a message just saying, "You are a splendiferous poster, I so much enjoy you", because, well, a message without a bit of sarcasm just isn't me. And so often, I don't know the person well enough to know how they'll take a little sarcasm. Quote:
Actually, an "Are You Sure?" message before you actually send it would be nice, now that I think about it.

I now have the fame of Frodo! Thanks to alatar and someone who not only didn't sign the rep but didn't even put a comment.

Well, I think that's a "Welcome Back" if I ever saw one. I've been a pretty busy little thing over in the "Books" section, especially in the "Tolkien a Religion?" - a debate I can get into.

It had been a long time since I'd recieved any unsigned reps but now two of my last three have been unsigned. o_O Oh well, I think I have a pretty good idea of at least one of those, so it's not eating at me too badly...

Hey! I had just decided on who I thought it was & told myself that I wasn't even going to think about it anymore & now you're trying to stir up my speculations again (& it's working)! Now I'll have to PM everyone in the entire forum & cross-examine them.

I did one of those, Estel. I just accidentally hit "enter" before I had finished typing it.
And I suspect it was the one you have a pretty good idea of too.

You know Werewolf has become a huge thing when people sign their reps with ++screenname (you know who you are).

Lalwende has just 'ascended' to the rank of gaffer-confounding tater-thief. Quite a step up from that dreadful spot on the mountain, imo.

I got all confused for a few minutes there, I was thinking "but I aint stolen no taters since I was a lass, what are they saying about me?"
Ah, a title I can live up to at least, and it was getting a bit windy so high up on Taniquetil (or it could be something to do with all the beans they've been eating, actually).

I wonder what the next level will be. The one about taters and gaffers just doesn't make a whole lot of sense compared to the direction the previous ones were taking.

Hmm... most interesting...
Is this (the tater-theft business) a sign that past a certain point, one's reputation title takes on a humourous, rather than serious, air? If so, t'is a good trend, say I, and I eagerly await the time when we can acclaim the crowning of our first "Gandalf the Grey Uncloaked". ~Playfully yours... Formendacil~

That title made me laugh considerably. Mainly at the suggestion that stealing taters from confused Gaffers is a feat not even Manwe could achieve!

I think some of us are getting a little obsessed with the werewolf games. I'm starting to get reps signed ++(username).
I think Gandalf the Grey Uncloaked would be great.

I think you should be allowed to put last-minute changes into your comments. I mean, I've forgotten to sign the last few I've posted, and once I remember, it's always too late to go back and change it...

You could always Pm the person and explain. I once accidentally sent a completely blank rep, so I just PMed the person I sent it to to tell them the reason for the rep and who it was that sent it.
By the way, thanks to whoever it was that sent me an unsigned (but positive and with a comment) rep today. It way very nice of you, whoever you are!

I wonder if Lal has gone so far she has tipped over the edge and is actually now at the lowest level, the previously unplumbed depths? Since so many of us prefer the carrot to the stick and the worst I can ever remember anyone being was "acting a bit like Ted Sandyman" (I think BW did list them at some point?)... stealing spuds from senile old codgers is a bit mean....

Have there been new 'rep thingies' written then? I hope so, because it will be funny looking out for new ones, and waiting to see how surreal they can get. Though I do recall that the number of boxes can't go over 11?

I've just noticed that an esteemed Barrowdowner has been given negative rep for a post in which she makes a completely valid and on-topic point. This particularly saddens me because earlier I was seriously considering giving negative rep for the first time ever on the Downs. I managed to restrain myself, though I'm not sure why I bothered.
Good posts are receiving negative rep and hundreds of nonsense posts (many of them submitted by the same Barrowdowner) are being ignored. Sorry to interrupt the jamboree here. Lalwende and davem truly deserve such praise for being so awesome.

I recently received a negative rep on a post in the "First Age Trivia" thread. The post basically said "you're correct and your turn" the comment on the negative rep wasn't signed but said "Random Bad Rep" I find this ridiculous. I know that the phantom said something about this earlier I know it wasn't him, so I just wanted to clarify this. Giving Random bad rep is not what the system is for.
