Your right that Legolas may have overshadowed Gimli slightly in TTT but i always noticed Gimlis humour. I definately do not think he overshadowed Aragorn though as he seemed, to me, to be in it a lot more and had more of an important part. I think also the same thinh with RotK. Aragorn had a much bigger part in that.

Righty-o.
Gonna just stick my little ol' rant in here.
I always believed that Legolas was your average elfling/prince/assasin that all young Mirkwood royalty would be.
As he doesn't get a huge part in the books (mainly the scout for the group) I was disappointed that PJ over did his part in the movies. Sure OB is gorgeous (anyone who's seen POTC or Ned K can tell you that) but now he just seems like a consumer driven character.
So when I try to explain to friends who haven't read the books how "real" he is; they just gush at the pointy ears and the tangle-free hair [which sad to say, sprouts a lot and fluff and slash fanfiction instead of adventure or novels].

Either way you still gotta clap when Morgan takes down the raging Oliphaunt.

Enjoy being dead! And who is Morgan? But yeah, I cheered and so did everyone else at that stunt...tangle free hair...*sniggers*

Some people just aren't mature enough to realize that there's more to movies than handsome men. The majority of the movie-going population are teenagers, and I daresay that a lot of them haven't read Lord of the Rings. They have no idea that the characters are so much more than pretty faces and nice bodies, because they don't have the maturity to realize that movies are more than those pretty faces. But then again, when we're given people like Ashton Kutcher and Britney Spears as role models, can you really blame them?
