To Teleliniel: What? No horses for US?
My five things would be -Lembas of course -Weapons: a bow & quiver full of arrows, and a long sharp dagger/short sword -Elvish cloak -A Horse(take that Teleliniel ) -And I guess a few of my buddies I suppose it would be wise to include a map, but since I am an Elvish scout out of Imladris, I do not think I would need such a thing. You guys kill me, Playelf, Hahahahaha
Thats cute Do not worry too much about horses, we can get them there (so i am told). Be careful with thoughts on food (apparently Lembas is running low at the moment!?) Kendal mint cake (although nice) will not last forever, What! never heard of Kendal mint cake! as used by many great explorers, well, it is like Lembas, only minty!! "What?" excuse me someone is shouting. "NO, I do not know" Just a minute. "Aragorn, bugger off, I still have not decided if i am taking you or not! We will see later." Gosh sometimes he is like a big kid, anyway, keep your ideas coming in. A.Y.S. F.G.

I've practically memorize my herb book so I don't need to bring it with me. Of course I may need to know the elven names of the herbs, but I will leave one of you to teach me that.

First of all, I would tell my brother to come along with us, so I don't need to put him on my list.. Otherwise, I would take along with me:
1. A lightweight carrige that I can put together and carry if I need to. ^_^ 2. A portable solarpowerstation. or maybe a bikegenerator? 3. My computer 4. My CD-player (need to listen to the LotR-soundtrack five times a day..) 5. a bag of candy.. the book: I would have to say that even though I would like to have the Sil, LotR, Hobbit or any similar book with me, I would still have the bible with me.. ^_^ Oh yeah, if I bring my brother as well, He can make sure that the generator-bike generates power all the time.. ^_^ this could be fun.. When are we leaving?

I'd have to get my sister to come along, as she's a huge Tolkein fan too and would kill me if i didn't bring her along (if she has to count as one of my items, then yes i could carry her as she's so skinny. she frequent the downs too, so she'll probably be along complaining in a minute!) also, she can always make me laugh, which would probably be useful. I've then got two lists of things to take, the sensible one and the silly one. I'll do the silly one first:
1. Solar powerered jet pack to help me get around nad escape form any danger without needing weapons! 2. A flattering dress so that when i met a nice elf, i could look stunning! 3. A hair brush for the same reason as the dress. 4. Make-up for the same reason as the dress and the hair brush. 5. A babbelfish so i could talk to everyone easily (for those of you who haven't heard "the Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy" you put it in your ear and it immediately translates everything you hear into the correct language for you!) the sensible list is just the same as everyone else's; weapons, food, dry socks and shoes cos i can't stand having wet feet, pen and paper to write down everything that happened and a good first aid kit, with explanations of what to do when someone got shot by an arrow and in other likely situations. As for the book, have all of Tolkein's books ever all been printed in one. It would be heavy to carry round, but worth it!

It'd have to be
1) warm clothes (I hate being cold) 2) Eric (A horse I used to ride he was so lovely I'd definately chose him over any other horse/pony) 3) Frogsticker (my sword) 4) Pans and cooking supplys (I'm Hobbit like and hate being hungry more than I hate being cold) 5) Flint and tinder (to start a fire with which to cook) I miss Eric, he moved away

Actually, muffin-goddess, these were supposed to be things you could carry in your backpack. I know, I know, everyone else is bring thier horse and best bud. Actually I origionally said I was going to bring a solar generator to power my espresso stand, but I have had to revise my list since then.

Joy! What you said: Aragorn (or even Viggo).
But I figure one might manage with just one item: a towel. If it works in Hitch-Hiker's Guide, why not in Middle-earth? Of course, Nevtalathiel's suggestion of a Babel Fish would save me learning any of the languages, but when everyone uses it, it causes more and bloodier wars than anything else in the universe. Leave it at home. [ March 22, 2002: Message edited by: Lostgaeriel ]

1) Clean socks -- I hate wet feet.
2) rope -- I think Sam showed how important rope can be in a fix 3) antibiotics -- we have no idea what kind if sicknesses they have 4) lembas -- only if I couldn't stop in Lothlorien 5) a couple of pots and pans -- I can cook for my companions -- maybe some rabbit stew??

Okay I replace Eric with "101 edible herbs and plants" just in case we run out of food. But can I still take Eric?

Right, now I only have to choose a book.
Hmmmmm, lets see, I think I would take The Middle Earth companion - it describes every thing to do with Middle Earth in short, easy to read entries, rather like a dictionary or encyclopedia, and similar to the DiscWorld Companion by Terry Prattchet - such a cool book!

heheh, that's a tough question actually - and i love what you have come up with so far (though i havent read through them all)
Well, as it happens, I have a wee bag made up for such a journey, which contains food (and lembas), water skins, spare clothes (just a couple of bits), an ME first-aid kit and a blanket. And that's only one item - yay! Another four. right. A weapon, a map, a ranger (failing that, a good friend) and...hmm. cooking utensils might be handy. But if my companion has some stuff, maybe I could take my diary instead.

I am so very impressed by the array of items that you all wish to take, there are some very well thought out lists.
Do remember that what you take, you carry! I could just imagine some of you carting around horses and satellite equipment with you all the way through ME. By the way, I thought we could all meet up in Bree (its at the crossroads between the Andrath Greenway and the East-West road, you cannot miss it), there is a nice little inn there called The Prancing Pony (some of you may have heard of it) We will have some lunch, a few beers, a good nights rest and set of just after breakfast. Yes, Muffin-Goddess, you can bring Eric, but he has to carry his own backpack!
Actually, Greenbow, I have this really cool backpack... It was made by the same guy who made Mary Poppins' carpet bag. I can pull the most amazing things out of it! [ March 25, 2002: Message edited by: Raefindel ]

Okay...let me think...
1: a very attractive, very strong elf (like Legolas maybe?!) 2: rope! 3: a Ranger (like Aragorn) 4: either food or some method to catch food 5: bow and arrows (can use the arrows just to stab, as Legolas did) [ March 25, 2002: Message edited by: VanimaEdhel ]

I'd sure hate to carry an Elf or a Ranger in MY backpack, VanimaEdhel! LOL Better meet them when you get to Bree. Did anyone see "Everafter"? The Gypsies told Danielle she could take anything she could carry and she picked up the Prince , threw him over her shoulder and walked off. Sounds like some of you will be doing just that! :LOL

I... I have to carry everything I take? Oh, dear...
book: The largest, most in-depth guide to Middle Earth I can find 1) a sword and shield 2) shoes (A hobbit probobly would forget to bring shoes leaving home) 3) a pillow 4) a first aid kit that contains chap stick and toilet paper 5) And I'd stuff the rest of my backpack with stuff to barter with...
