I'm going to guess Balin, but don't ask why, cause I'm none to sure.

Another clue:

A small part I played in a tale of woe,
my kin was cursed, I wed my foe.

I'm guessing Aerin.
She was an kinswoman of Hurin, whose family was cursed. She aided Morwen, another kinswoman. She was taken as wife by Brodda the Easterling. Her hall was burned down by Turin Turambar. |

Quite correct!
It was actually she, not Turin, who set fire to her hall after Turin killed Brodda. "Faint heart is yours...as it was when I called you aunt, and a rough dog frightened you," Turin told her, but afterwards he was rebuked by one of the other men, "she did much good among us at much cost."

Did the Dead under the mountain say that? You know, where Aragorn calls them to rise up and fight for him to fufill their oath. Am I right?

Oh you are so close. What I need is the name of one man in particular who lies under the mountain. But this won't be so difficult, as there are not many choices.

Actually I wouldn't say that any of the host of the Dead was really "buried" under the Mountains; somehow they were still living when Aragorn meets them.
So you have to think of another character - The King of the Dead is wrong. Greetings, EfR |

Ok well in the book there is a bit where they find a dead man lying by a door that he could not get through.
I can't remember exactly but was it maybe Beren?

It is now the dead man by the door. This one is really "under the Mountain". As for the name of the doorkeeper, I don't know it either.

Wasn't Baldor of Rohan the man who entered the paths of dead and never came back, thereby making him the dead man at the door under the mountain?

Baldor was not the dead man at the door, since his body was found only after 'time unreckoned had passed' since the Grey Company passed the door, but he is exactly what I have been looking for.

Eol was a good guess, but Elrond has it. It was indeed Beren. Good job.

It is none of your guesses.
Try to figure out what quite a lot of people (speaking of races, that is) are longing for. |

No, although Cirdan lived where the longing could be more easily satisfied than for example in Lothlorien.

Salmar made the horns of Ulmo, so I'm going to say it's him.
Upon further study I can also tell you that they are called the Ulumuri. <font size=1 color=339966>[ 7:05 PM January 19, 2004: Message edited by: symestreem ]
