Person - no
Place - no Is it alive - no Object - no Law/ban - no Natural - good question. No. Doom/curse - no, but it's getting a little warmer. Law/ban is also on the right track. The approach is right.

So it isnt anything really, but just a concept, an idea of it being there. Something akin to an object and a law/ban, but not in the literal sense. Reminds me of *drumrolls* The Doors of Night!

I doubt that they were the first ones to ever "use" this. Oath - no, but getting closer Doors of Night - no, but also in the right direction. Oath of Feanor - I said it's not an oath. Time for another hint, perhaps. There are different kinds of concepts. There are abstract-concepts, like love and belief, that you can't really illustrate or imagine in a physical form; you just understand them (or don't). There are also those that, well, are more physical, like Girdle of Melian and Doors of Night. Although you can't really see/feel/etc them, they have a definite place, or a substence (not in these examples, though), or something else sort-of-physical in them. The thing I'm thinking of is the second kind of concept. Also, the approach is more correct with the Girdle of Melian and The Doors of Night, but "oath" is closer in the sense of what it consists of... It is so hard to give clues that aren't going to confuse others but won't give away the answer! Please tell me if you need clarification of this clue, and I'll try my best to give a better explanation.

Void - no, but another good guess.
This thing doesn't have a specific location, but it can be described with words fairly well.

Timeless Halls - no
What other clues can I give? This is so frustrating!!! OK, here's another one. This thing is composed of a bunch of other things that we all (or nearly all) use everyday, probably without realizing that we are casually throwing about "small concepts". For the sake of easier guessing, I'll tell this one right away: this is NOT a place/location concept. That should narrow the search down a bit . And remember my previous clue - it can be described with words

The boundary that keeps the Men out of Valinor - no.
I meant that "place" is not involved anyhow (except that we can rule out where the thing originated )

It is not a border. A border involves place, being the separation of two places. This does not have anything in common with a place except for the place of origin.

I just don't know. What is it? It is made of a whole bunch of small things that we use everyday and it is not in the place that it is in is not the same/unknown...what describes this...? The Walls of the World? Mandos? Ulmo's home?!? The ocean? WHAT?! |

Just to clarify: It is not a location/place. It is a consept. It is made up of "small concepts" that we use every day. It can be described with words (this clue is particularly significant!!!) I'll wait for another few days to see if anyone has more guesses, and then I'll tell what it is.

Both are very good guesses, but no to both (neither foresight not lammoth-echo). I see you got the idea about no-location-significance. Now think - what could one use basically anywhere? (I wouldn't say it is used everywhere, but it could be). Also, there's a very good reason why I said that it could be decribed with words, rather that, let's say, pictures.

Since you keep insisting that it can be described with words, is it perhaps made with words, like e.g. a poem?

Yes it is!!! In fact, the poem guess is quite close - things like this one usually start out as poems, though not always. And now you know exactly what category to guess from. Good job, Pitch!!!

riddle - no, poem is still the closest. And as I said, there is a possibility that it is in fact a poem, but I have no evidence of such or otherwise.

Here's one-what does the Gridle of Milan, poems, and being close have anything to do with one another? No, really...
*sighs* Is it truly like a poem? Is there words in it? Was it said in LotR? |

Yes, it is truly like a poem, and perhaps it is a poem, but no one knows for sure.
Yes it is made with words. It wasn't specifically said by anyone in LOTR, however, the likes of it were. The Girdle of Melian was closest before Pitch guessed that it's made with words. Now it's replaced by poem.

Ah, there's nothing like a real Italian pizza hot from the Griddle of Milan!
Hm, the purpose of Melian's Girdle (as well as the Doors of Night, which you said was also a good guess) was to keep enemies (or The Enemy) out, so maybe a password?

No, not a password.
Girdle of Melian and Doors of Night were in the right direction because of the "thinking process", not the actual answer.

Magic spell - no, poem is still the closest. Pitch was THAT close to guessing it when he said poem, and now you are going farther away again. Think: what could be a poem, but is ore than that?

Ah, now we're getting somewhere. We already know it wasn't sung in LotR, so:
Was it sung by an Elf?
