I began in darkness, then lost laughter.
I lost sadness sometime after. One to illness, one to cleft, losing both what had I left? Who am I? |

Turin is the answer I was looking for. Just to clarify: Lalaith, meaning laughter, was the sister whom he lost to illness, and Nienor, 'mourning' was his other sister, who cast herself into the Teiglin. So he lost both laughter and sadness.

I'm thinking Samwise's guess is good, but maybe its from the Silmarillion, Unfortunately I don't have that book right now. so for anyone else, if its not celeborn, think about the trees.
Unless I'm totally off Sry, if I'm wrong, have fun BYE!!! Merry Christmas! |

Perhaps the answer is Lorien the Maia. He had part of Lothlorien named after him; the 'dream' part at least. And his spouse was Este, who is perhaps the lady mentioned in the last stanza. I admit that Lorien doesn't really fit the rest of the verse, but I thought perhaps...

and when I say Lorien the Maia, of course I mean Lorien the Vala (I really kicked myself over this one)

you could've said Irmo, since Lorien was a place in Valinor, and LothLorien wasn't really a city, more a forest, but finwe is correct and i like a explanation of how you got it...

Okay I'm guessing Aragorn. My reasons are:
I am the heir - he's the heir of Gondor and the race of Numenor(sp). I come in time of need - came to Gondor during the battle of Pellenor fields, and saved both Gondor and all Middle earth from Mordor. My father and mother both killed in the forests green - His parents died when they were in the north (not in Gondor) I come to reclaim the throne From which the stunted took -I'm thinking these are the orcs of Mordor. I killed the 3 C's in the 2nd of the 3rd - This one I'm not sure about. But maybe its the 2nd battle of the 3rd age or something. |

My guess is Dior, son of Beren and Luthien, because he killed Celegorm, Curufin and Caranthir( 3 C's).

My guess would be Dior, Thingol's heir.
My reasons are as follows: - Dior IS (Thingol's) heir. - He comes after Thingol's death, so somehow the realm of Doriath needed a new ruler. - Dior's father Beren was mortally wounded by Carcharoth in the green forest of Doriath, his wife Lúthien chose to became mortal and griefed to death, so maybe one can consider her as being "dead" in Middle-Earth, killed also by Carcharoth. (okay I admit this is the weak point.) - Dior comes to Doriath in order to reclaim his grandfather's throne taken by the Dwarves (stunted people). - Dior killed the Three C's (Celegorm, Caranthir and Curufin) in the second of the three great downfalls (Nargothrond, Doriath, Gondolin) of the First Age. Thorongil got it first, but elrond explained it almost, the 2nd of the 3rd meant the 2nd kin slaying of the 3 kinslayings (teleri of avallone, doriath, sirion)and beren and luthien were both killed in ossriand by Sons or orcs, don't remeber. well thorongil or elrodn may anwser, whoever gets here first

I beg to differ, Gil-galad. Beren and Luthien were not killed (unless it is stated otherwise in something more canonical than the Sil). They simply... died.

Well here I am.
Powerful I am, Though I am no Lord. My realm is the water, but it is not flowing, still it reaches everywhere. Greetings, EfR Edit: I see now that there were some unclear points about the deaths of Beren and Lúthien. I would agree with the fact that Lúthien died of herself. I hope my riddle will be accepted, otherwise I will delete it. <font size=1 color=339966>[ 9:35 PM January 10, 2004: Message edited by: Elrond of Rivendell ] |

I don't know if your answer is acceptable, but I'll have a go at your riddle. I guess Ulmo, though I have a feeling it's more complex than that.

Well it is NOT Ulmo. But on the other hand, my riddle is not THAT complicated. I would also like to see your reasons for choosing this or that person, otherwise I can't be sure if my riddle was understood.

Nice work Gil-galad, but I am afraid this is not the answer. The clue "I am not a Lord" doesn't apply to Cirdan, as he was "The Lord of the Havens".
Extra hint: Think about what you can be if you aren't a Lord! Greetings, EfR |

And Uinen it is.
She was of course no Lord but very powerful as a Maia. Her realm was the water of all the seas (which are not flowing, in opposition to rivers and streams), and her hair was said to lie spread through all waters under sky. Please proceed Lalaith. Greetings, EfR |

Ok, I'm new to this, here goes:
My nephew's scorn was quite unearned, my heart was true, my hall was burned.

I am guessing wildly:
Turgon's "hall" Gondolin was burned (<>destroyed) because of the unjustified scorn of his nephew, Maeglin. |
