Time for a clue? If you work out what "ash" is the rest should be easy. Americans may be at a disadvantage and anyone who knows why menzies is pronounced mingies may have an advantage......

I don't feel like I have an advantage, but with ash you might be talking about the Anglo-Saxon rune then? I think it's the ae, but I'm not sure.

Digamma is the reason lots of really really ancient Minoan Greek words end in inthos. I forget exactly how or why. It's pronounced something like a w.

You are right though the rest of the clue was intended differently.

æ is indeed called ash and is just the most beautiful letter to my mind..like a little flower.

Lissom means much the same as lithe

and the initial letter of serpent is s
