I like both, but if forced to pick I'd obviously pick Nerdanel based on actual accomplishment rather than strictly my own imaginings. She was a legendary artisan in her own right, daughter and grandmother of two of the best and wife of the very best, which is perhaps what caught his attention. Plus she's red-headed- a rarity. Plus anyone able to influence Feanor must have something very very special...

I like both too. Nobody can deny Nerdanel's achievements, but Thuringwethil is either
a female messenger, probably some kind of a Maia - and cool enough to use imagination in choosing her form or the name Lśthien took for herself after leaving Tol-in-Gaurhoth, and no one needs to be told of Lśthien's extraordinary achievements. Still, if it's her, I probably like her Thuringwethil plot the best out of everything she did.
