This looks quite fun. I probably won't watch it live, but will hope to be able to see it later. Some general observations here... Sean Astin looks like he's aged quite a lot, considering I also watched The Goonies for about the 50th time recently. Dom Monaghan looks like he hasn't aged a day from when he first played Merry. Ian McKellan reading one of his lines from the movies makes me want to go watch all 3 of them now.

Elijah Wood finally looks like an adult, he might actually make a decent Frodo if the movies were made today.

That trailer pushes all the same nostalgia buttons as The Last Goodbye music video did six years ago. I will definitely be watching. It's at 5pm for me, so it's even a reasonable time.

I just watched the trailer and that last 30 seconds was perfect. Is it one where you have to watch live or do the videos stay up on the channel?

I believe, or at least I hope, they'll keep the video up on the channel.

My absolute favorite Gandalf quote, and it has me wanting to rewatch the movies too. It's been a long time!

Just got the chance to watch it, and I couldn't agree more. Although it dtill doesn't make me want to rewatch the movies. But maybe listen to more Ian McKellen Gandalf quotes. Won't be able to watch it live, but hopefully will have a chance to see it later.

That was amazing. Best moment was when Liv Tyler was being kind of mediocre with her lines, and then suddenly drops into fluent, rapid-fire Elvish. Jaw-drop!
Here is the link; it's 50 minutes long, and entirely worthwhile. hS |

Thank you Huey. Sort of typing as I'm listening...
Hehe, Viggo casually throwing out his passion for Celtic myth, as in a "doesn't everyone do this" way. Hey it's the entire Fellowship. And I really would like to spend a day in John Rhys-Davies' library...looks like it would be interesting. Ian McKellan mixing up his line "A wizard is never late Bilbo Bagg...I mean Frodo" Poor guy. Elijah Wood had a small cameo but Ian is the only actor to reprise his role in a major part in The Hobbit. Naturally he stumbled up a bit. How does Smeagol/Gollum social distance? Big question I think we all wanted to know. The nod to Christopher Lee. Well done. Bernard Hill showing up at the very end after everyone's left.

Very revealing that PJ would contrast "boring dialogue scenes" with doing "something cool."
And this (during filming): "We believe that Gollum is going to be even bigger than Jar-Jar Binks."

I forget what thread it was where you and I debated about the Jackson/Walsh/Boyens arrogance in believing they improved Tolkien. In which case I will say now I stand corrected on my viewpoints then. I still think there's nothing inherently wrong with someone reading/being inspired by art and thinking "I want to create something better" or "I respect the original source, but want to improve it." In my opinion, that is the purpose of creativity. Having said that to gloat and brag that it was a better script/better written than Tolkien, oh my...they're delusional and arrogant. I don't remember if Walsh was a script writer for The Hobbit, but I'm pretty sure Boyens was. And well, The Hobbit's script speaks for itself. Without as much original source material to pillage, my ears bled from hearing what Boyen's and Jackson "created."

Finally watched it!

When they started talking about writing more exquisitely than Tolkien, the only scene I could think of where this possibly applied is the one they brought up, with "I cannot / shall not pass". I could not think of any other line I would rather hear in movie script form than in book form. But that aside, I feel like Merry and Pippin kinda took their characters to real life. It was fun to watch.
