Got an idea. Based on the Legolas Crazy Captions thread.
PJ has Bard hit in an arm by Smaug's tail, he falls to the ground while throwing the Red Arrow to Legolas. Hasta la vista Smaug. He wouldn't really do that...would he?

Sorry Tuor but it was a Black Arrow....... The Red Arrow came from Minas Tirith to Rohan for aid. But I get your drift.....

But that small detail doesn't matter! The Red Arrow needs some history behind it.

I completely agree with Galadriel55. I think it being out of place only makes it more desirable in the eyes of PJ.

No, he only likes things out of place when they can get guys to look hot or girls to look pretty or people to get angsty

Not entirely...there was the whole army of the dead at Minas Tirith thing, which mostly just seemed to be an excuse for more CGI...

Hmm. How to reconcile what would seem at first glance to be an
error on the color of the Smaug-killing arrow? Now what would Tolkien do... Wait! The arrow was of course black, but after being eventually retrieved from The Long Lake it remained forever coated with Smaug's blood and was therefore renamed the "Red Arrow." Fun Fact: In the $$$ successful Peter Jackson 2-part movie of The Hobbit it is Legolas who retrieves and renames the arrow.

Or a film called The Black Arrow..... a cross between Men in Tights and The Lord of the Rings to be sub-titled The Importance of Colour-coded Arrows in Warfare.

Now all that we need to come up with is how it got to Denethor. Ummmm... Legolas gave it as a gift to the Captain of Gondor for his military help. Esgaroth is a north Gondorian settlement, right? I mean, what else could it be?

Oh, and what a brilliant idea this would be: As a signal that Smaug is comming Gandalf makes Bilbo climb some high place and put fire to it! Haha... The real reason for Esgaroth's destruction...
Edit: There's a certain article that I found to be quite, erm, disagreeable. I don't want to tripple-post, so I'm editing it in: http://www.asylum.co.uk/2011/08/25/p...ould-go-wrong/ - and that's the worst that can happen, according to them. Pffft!

This site has a casting list for the movie, and among those listed is "Alfrid - Ryan Gage".
I admit to not having paid that much attention to the movie's production recently, so maybe this is old news. But who the Utumno is Alfrid? Beorn's elderly butler who keeps the Bearcave ready?

According to this, Alfrid is "The Master of Laketown's 'conniving' servant".
So, it wasn't enough to invent one character, eh Mr. Jackson?

You know, sad as it is, the parallel with Wormtongue did cross my mind.
I really don't get the reasoning here. Is the Master himself not conniving enough on his own?

They should have just named the character Anni-Frid, and had her be a female member of a traveling minstrel troupe. Now that's script engineering.

I don't get the reasoning either, but there's just so much to complain about in his "Tolkien" movies that I'm tired of complaining.

About this Alfrid, I see more PJ and friends mucking with TH:
Ryan Gage as Alfrid:[34] The Master of Laketown's "conniving" servant. Gage was originally cast to play Drogo Baggins, father of Frodo Baggins. According to Jackson, "Ryan is a great young actor who we originally cast in a small role, but we liked him so much, we promoted him to the much larger Alfrid part."
Not only invent a new character but make it a "much larger" part. Well, like dwarf tossing in the LOTR movies, with PJ Quote:

The end of 2012, I believe. (Will it be the last thing we see before the world ends? Or, is it going to be so bad that the rage of all Tolkienites around the globe will make the Earth explode, thus ending the world? I see the War of Wrath repeating itself... )

It's from The Silmarillion, a book that's about the First Age. It says that in that war the fury of the fighters was so great that it clove the earth. In a few days half the continent drowned.
See more: http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/w/warofwrath.html It was meant as a joke on my part, though not entirely.

If PJ's Warrior Princess Arwen didn't usher in the End, hopefully the carnage wrought by Itaril and Alfrid will be minimal.
