Money, Money, Money (& New Line)
First indications of the results of the court case the Tolkien Trust won against New Line for their 'creative accounting' - the Charity commission site shows their income for last year- £24,536,138 . Yep - twenty four & a half million. Thats up by about, oh, TWENTY FOUR MIL on the previous year. http://www.charity-commission.gov.uk...idiaryNumber=0
(& its not clear whether that's a one off payment - they were asking for a lot more.....) |

This confirms the amount here. Even allowing that they settled out of court, my guess and hope is that was an interim or installment payment. But even that sum in these days of dismal interest rates should allow the trust to do a lot of good for a long time.

There is the interesting section on the financial health of the charity "Excellent. Assuming the receipt in full of the moneys due pursuant to the
settlement of the US litigation, the Trust will have much more extensive resources to deploy in support of a wide range of charitable causes active around the world." I would take that to indicate that there is more to come since I don't think that they would show the £24mil as income if they hadn't got it already. But I am not a qualified accountant ....
