lost painting of Gandolf found
My friend is in possesion of the painting Der Berggeist by Madlinger which is the origin of Gandolf. She got it in Germany around 1940. It is dated 1938. We feel this would be of great interest to Tolkein affecianatos....not sure how to market it..any ideas? TIA Purrcat

Can you have it scanned, perchance?
Besides that, you can contact GB or NY Tolkien societies for further assitance. They must have experts to evaluate if its genuine item. I believe also they held auctions of Tolkien memorabilia on regular basis. Also you can PM davem as he (I suppose) is old hand at Tolkien jamborees of all sorts and may know a few people around.

Sorry, but I don't think I can be of much use
According to this :http://www.houghtonmifflinbooks.com/..._7insert.shtml the painting dates from the 1920's, not 1938 (I wouldn't say I'm an old hand at the Tolkien jamborees, either - I've only been to 3 Oxonmoots !) |
