What's a Vanyar?
I put my name into the name generator(Gimli Son Of Glóin) and it said I was a "Hideous Balrog". I put in just my first name(Gimli) and it said I was some sort of Vanyar. What's a Vanyar?

They are The People of Ingwë. The Vanyar are one of the elven kindreds. Also known as fair elves or light-elves.
All of the Vanyar journeyed to Valinor long before the beginning of the First Age and stayed there. That's why they are not mentioned often in the histories of Middle Earth. |

:: pats Gimli on the head:: Calm yourself, master dwarf. No one could ever possibly mistake you for an elf. As an elf, I know this. Besides, Vanyar aren't all that bad . . .a little vague and mystical, what with all that "sitting at the feet of Manwe and Varda" but hey, not everyone can be Noldoran . . .

I'm wondering now, which were Higher, the Noldor or the Vanyar? I always thought it was the Vanyar, but not I'm not so sure. They never really did anything except stay in Valinor.

The Vanyar like to think they are . . .we Noldo have given up arguing with them, but we know the truth.
[Seriously? considering all the things the Noldor did--the two Kinslayings, defying the Valar, etc--the Vanyar.]

It should also be mentioned that the Vanyar have light colored hair.

Gimli, just be thankful it didn't come up as "A Beautiful Balrog"! One of my friends got this recently.
BTW, Tarthang, it was the Noldor that had light hair.

An undercover citizen of Umbar which was home to many Black Numenoreans and a coastal city of Harad. They were in alliance with Sauron. Welcome to the Downs by the way!

The Vanyar(as described in the sil)- The first host of the Eldar on the westward journey from Cuiviénen led by Ingwë. Singular Vanya means "fair."
Ingwe was considered the King of all Elves. The Vanyar loved poetry (which Manwe gave them much help) and songs. |

"Noldoran" = Noldorin
Seems like a true Noldorin would know how to spell the name of her kindred.

Only if one was remarkably foolish. After all, I hardly write in roman english characters all that often, now, do I? ^~ Foolish human spelling. . . bah, humbug.
