The Men of the north called Bombadill Orald, which means very old. Coincidentally, the German word uralt means the same thing

Tolkien translated the Red Book from Westron, the Common Speech of northwestern Middle-Earth, into English, often using Old English words or old words from other languages to represent the names of places and people. Though the Westron word Orald and the German word uralt are similar and have the same meaning, the two languages they came from are in no way related and neither was derived from the other. So the similarity must be coincidence.

I would just like to add that Tolkien did know German and had German heritage so he proberbly just adjusted the word slightly but that is proberbly where he got the idea from

Prof. Tolkien might very well have gotten the idea for the word Orald from the similar German word. But part of the magic of Middle-Earth is that it is not supposed to be made up. It is supposed to be a translation of actual events that happened in ages past. Suspend your disbelief as the author wanted, forget the modern world, and enjoy the many wonderful 'coincidences' in the spirt they were written.
