How does he get it out of isengard when saruman takes it? and how does he egt it out of the Mines of Moria, at the beginning of the Two Towers, its laying on the bridge?

lol its a movie, they can't have an explanation for everything, but I too was wondering the same thing, well I guess we'll never know.

he did lose the staff in the mines of moria, and he left it on the bridge, he acctually defeated the balrog, without his staff, just his sword. And when he was sent back to middle earth he was equipped with a new and improved white staff.

Especially when they're starting from a book which has an incredible perfection in continuity. If PJ was one fifteenth as pedantic as Tolkien was, there wouldn't be any nitpicks in the movies at all. I tried to explain away the Isengard staff thing by saying that maybe he made a new one. It's the only explanation I can think of, other than "they f*ed up!" The movies definitely treat the wizards' staves more offhand than the book does. I don't think that Saruman should have been able to take Gandalf's staff and use it against him. They're not like normal weapons, they're more symbolic than anything.Am I the only one who hated Gandalf's white staff? I thought the actual staffs in FOTR were brilliant.

I disliked the new staff aswell. Much more Sarumany! So cold, it should have been more plain and less black (the frame thing), just a white jewel or something.

In PJ's defense, I have to bring up the fact that LOTR was written as ONE BOOK, and even though the films were shot all at once, there was CONSTANT change in the process.I'd like to believe that the white staff is just part of the new things endowed to Gandalf when he returned as the White Wizard. I'd like to think there's a happy place where all the white stuff goes when the former white wizard goes bezerk and proclaims himself as the wizard of many colors.Maybe in addition to an awesome GPS device, Gwaihir has crazy connections to a personal stylist and hooked his white homie up with some new threads and accessories.Gotta love the movies because they give us reasons to post messages such as these
