Silmaril Love

Hello!
I have been told, that you can tell your in love, when you wake up and your thinking about them, when you work you think about them, when you eat you think about them and when you sleep you think about them. Assuming this is correct, I have come to the conclusion that I am in love with Lord of the Rings. When i eat, i think, would frodo eat this? When im at school i think 'did Borimir study algebra 30 times a year?' When I dress i think, 'would Arwen wear this?' I cant get it out of my head!!! Anyone else feel this way? Please share your feelings, let us know!
Bye!

Well, during finals week I don't think about LOTR a lot, but the rest of the time I think about it at least once every half hour. It probably doesn't help that I hang out with other people who also love LOTR. And the nice thing about LOTR, there's enough to go around, so we can all be in love with it! (but if you touch my books, you're dead!)

You know, since I was a child and first read the Lord of the Rings books I have been enchanted in a way. The funny thing is that I actually confuse real-life with the LoTR sometimes. About 2 years ago I moved into a VERY Tolkienish part of the country and I remember saying to myself "I wish Frodo were still alive to see this." then I got a confused look on my face and remembered that Frodo and the other companions were never real in the flesh. You can imagine how childish I felt having to remind myself that there are no such things as hobbits!

That would be me, once evry half hour at least!!! I wake up thinking LOTR and at night I dream about LOTR (places like this don't help). My parents are now mad at me beacuse I think about it so much.

Just to know you aren't alone.

But the great thing about LOTR is that you can slip in and out! I often have wierd day dreams about random LOTR things!! In fact I probably spend more time in my head then anywhere else!!
And yes my parents have decided that I'm sick! In fact the other day my mum told me to 'Stop being such a freak and grow up don't you care what others think'. to which I replied a simply 'NO' before turning up the sound track and going back to my figurines and dictionaries. I mean parents are meant to incourage you to be indiv. and to not care what people thing! my parents are totally backwards!!

It's amazing how many conversations you can turn into confersations about LOTR! Hehehe. No I am NOT sane! My parents think that I am a little over the edge, but they started me on LOTR, so they can't really complain. All I have to say is "you started it!" What can they do? NOTHIN! Hehehe

You know, when I was nine, I told my mom that I was going to marry Legolas? Seriously: in LotR: FotR, when they reached Lothlorien, I turned to my mom and told her I would find a portal and marry Legolas.

Now, I'm fifteen and am still searching for that darn portal...I still say it's behind the door that's locked from the outside that my friend cannot open in her room, but she will not let my friends and me knock the door down...we all say it is a portal into the Mines of Moria.

And, when I am not having horrific dreams about some not-too-favorable people that used to go to my school coming back, I dream Lord of the Rings (okay, I'll admit it: or I dream action-adventure movie or about hot actors...but that is very rarely).

I had this image of the Fellowship...beautiful image, sadly marred by the sands of time...when I was nine. I imagined Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin as the most beautiful little child-like people, Aragorn as a handsome, handsome Ranger, Gandalf as a grandfatherly man, Gimli as a not-too-ugly bearded poo-head who feigned grumpiness, Boromir as the "deceivingly" handsome son of the Steward (whatever that was), and Legolas as the most beautiful creature in creation. I thought that, once I went through the portal, I would become Melana, a beautiful, beautiful Elf princess, and that Legolas would come across me in the woods and we would marry and live happily-ever-after.

And people wonder why I miss my single-digit age years...

Ah...falling in love with Middle Earth. I've been saying that to myself for the last three months.

I just finished the Trilogy the other night (for the first time!), and though the ending made me cry (while I was reading it out loud), I woke up smiling.

In fact, every morning, I wake up with a smile, with the image of Samwise headed for the Grey Havens.

..sigh

That sounds so like me! I think about LOTR constantly! I think, 'Would Arwen wear this dress? Wouldn't Frodo love to see this place!' and all sorts of things like that. When talking about LOTR, I often say 'back then' as if it really happened ages ago! And nobody touches my books or dvd! Once, my sister picked up my FOTR book, and I immediatly started going, 'Thief! It's mine... my own.... my precious.' Then I started laughing hysterically at myself! I also really want to learn archery so I can be even more elvish I'm growing my hair out long so I'll look more elvish, I want more elvish looking clothes... I spend hours online looking at LOTR sites.... No, I'm not sane, but at least I enjoy my life!

Hi! know what you mean arwen1858,i was at school and I had my copy of the silmarillion on my desk when my totally feral, festy, disgusting history teacher picked it up. I snatched it back started furiously polishing at it with my blouse, and demanding he apolagised! Naturally I got a detention, but NOBODY but NOBODY touches my Tolkien books and gets away with it!!! My brother left the DVD out of its case and I hurled his Red Hot Chili Peppers DVD at the way! Naturally I got grounded...It was so worth it!!!!

I absolutely adore The Lord of the Rings for many reasons. First of all, I feel a remarkable kinship with each of the characters, as if I am there with them, going through the same trials and having the same temptations assail me. Secondly, I think some of their characteristics have been passed on to me. I appreciate nature, and am able to identify many trees and plants that I previously cared nothing about. Even trees, naked and dead with the coming winter are beautiful to me. I can rejoice in the simple things in life, and not always worry about everything, good or bad, which I know happen for a reason. Third, but not last, is the fact that it has captured so many others' hearts as it has captured mine. I'm so glad you guys enjoy it as much as I do, and its really fun to discuss things with you, be it remarkable theories, good ideas, or just plain nonsense!

I shall not bore you with the endless list of why I love The Lord of the Rings. This bacially sums it up.

Elana-who says hobbits aren't real? at school, my LOTR friends all categorize each other into whatever race they think the other fits into best. i got hobbit-albeit feisty evil-smiting hobbit of war-my other friend, whos on the barrow downs as NyteSky is an elf, you get the picture.

arelendil-compose a list of all the violent crimes that you've seen people on the news do everyday. show this list to your parents. say, "would you rather see me go do stuff like this, or contentedly remain here with LOTR?" this should put things into perspective for them, and if it doesn't, well, nothing will.

Before I really got "into" (in a literal sense sometimes) the books this past fall, I had read them, and I was interested, but I had more important things on my mind. Like cutting my arms, starving myself hating my family, and planning my death. Over the summer I improved, and a lot of my ascent was due to LotR. Really. I looked at the nobility of the Elves and their love of life and Nature. I looked at the hobbits and their simple existance, taking it day by day and enjoying it. Then... I looked at the other side. At Sauron, and Saruman, and Morgoth, and orcs and balrogs and thought.... who am I more like?
That helped put things in perspective. I'm a hobbit now.
It takes a lot of work. But loving something as "real" as Lord of the Rings helps. It gives you something to compare yourself to and focus on.

You guys make me feel better. I spend all my time (especially with TT coming up so soon) thinking about LotR. Wondering what the Fellowship would think about the song I'm currently listening to. Gazing up mournfully at my posters, wishing I was in Middle-earth as I struggle through my geometry. I quote the book endlessly. I keep an oft-updated countdown till the Two Towers premiere. I'm re-reading the Two Towers right now, having finished Fellowship again. Obsessed? If you wish. I prefer "Tolkienized."

Orual, I couldn't agree more. The way things are now ticks me off, and everyday i feel as if i was never meant for the modern world, nor it for me-this doesn't darken my outlook, fortunately. Rather, it strengthens my resolve to live differently. I'm pretty sure I should have either been just put in Middle-Earth, or as a half-way thing, a knight in the Middle Ages. Stories like Lindril's also show the power of Tolkien's work in changing lives as well, and for the better, dispelling the myth that LOTR is juvenile fantasy.

Woah. I hadn't really read Lindril's story until now. Lindril, that's so powerful. I'm so glad that you're feeling better now.

The Lord of the Rings is a really potent book, with a lot of power to change its reader. (The One Book?) I've never read a book that made so deep an impression upon me as LotR. One major part of that, I think, is the characters; though none of them are perfect, all of them have at least one part of their personality that's totally admirable. (Especially my Sam. He has a lot more than one.) My friend said that she read an article where the author says that none of the characters represent Christ, (which makes sense because Tolkien didn't like allegories), but all of them represented an aspect of Christ.

It's also a story of hope, triumph, loyalty, love, friendship, and humanity. It's a story that says that we all have the potential to be a hero in our own right, though we probably won't ever go on an epic quest to destroy a piece of jewelry and save the world. Ultimately, it's a story about us, and everybody can relate to it, which is why it's remained such a treasured story, and such a central part of so many peoples' lives.

Amen, Orual and all ya others. I really have found my second home! (My third is Xanth.) Oh my friends give me looks and the other readers in the class don't feel what I feel, so I'm alone. I've even started coming up with plots and stories to continue the blood lines: Legolas' daughter, Faramir's son, and Elfwine, son of Eomer to name a few. LOTR is my world where I am in control. I love it and I always will.

You people are all so sure that the LOTR and middle-earth aren't real, you can never be too sure keep that in mind, it seems alot of you do not get along with your fellow people whether it be friends or family or just other humans (or hobbits or Elves as some of you are) i find it very cool that you can all relate and be comforted by one person's writing you are all beautiful people and individual and i can see a LOTR character/race/class in each of you as i read your posts.

I know how you all feel. Everytime that I go past rees , I wonder if they are Ents; everyone I see someone do something stupid, I say, "Fool of a Took!".

I believe that I truly am infatuated with LOTR, but if I wasn't then I wouldn't really have a best friend, or have made as many new friends as I have at the retreats, etc. that I have been going to lately, nor would I know you all. I admit it; I love LOTR!! LOTR RULES!!

I am more sick than all of you, because part of me truly believes in Middle-earth,that there could be somewhere this could all exist, and did exist, and just because you dream something doesn't mean it isn't true. Tolkien said that it wasn't as if he had invented Middle-earth,but as if he had discovered it.I think there are many things to discover yet.

Awesome, Dendrin! What am I?

Shh! Don't tell me that Middle-earth doesn't exist! But soft! But soft! I don't want to hear it! Meow...that can't be true...no, I don't believe it. It's there, waiting for me, y'hear? I'm serious! You can't convince me otherwise.

Still waiting for my Samwise Gamgee, I remain yours truly,

I am more sick than all of you, because part of me truly believes in Middle-earth,that there could be somewhere this could all exist, and did exist, and just because you dream something doesn't mean it isn't true. Tolkien said that it wasn't as if he had invented Middle-earth,but as if he had discovered it.I think there are many things to discover yet.
I totally believe and hope with all my heart that there is a place in this world were Middle Earth exists and that I may visit that wonderful place one day.

And, so, I wake up everyday hoping and wishing that I lived in Middle Earth. Yet, so far, I have been dissapointed to discover that I am still here, not in Middle Earth, where my heart so badly wishes to be.

i have a friend still waiting for the inter-dimensional portal to open up and deposit him in middle-earth-or some other world where dragons are abundant and both good and evil.

LoL, Demloth! You mean, you don't look for it, too?? I think that in all irony it'll be behind a McDonald's or something. Just when you're feeling the lowest, you think the world can't get any worse...POW! It can get as bad as it wants, because sayonara! It's all behind you!

Or at least, that's how it ought to be.

Thumbs up

Guys, no! Don't you see? We don't need a portal or visions... Middle-Earth IS here! Think of it like we're of the Fourth Age or something.... us Men have been around so long that the other races have left. But they were here. Try it that way. It's really great.... "here's where the Elves made their abode in the Third Age etc..."
And actually, I made my best friend because of Lord of the Rings- I saw this guy sitting in the school library curled up on a couch reading The Hobbit, which I'd just finished and now, three years later, we're inseperable. I love Tolkien. He's made the best things in my life happen.

I do wish that I could find the portal to Middle Earth.

Actually, if we are here in Middle Earth, but just in a different age, then I want to go back in time!!

Hhhhmmmm....I wonder if dwarves (in our time~ short people) are really relatives of the Dwarves in in the Third Age or of Hobbits....hhhhmmmm....

well, one thing is for certain-i am a hobbit, though an evil-smiting paladin at that. which makes me wonder if a portal mayhaps deposited me here when i was young, and i forgot, and i haven't seen it since. it can't be proved due to lack of evidence, thus it can't be disproved due to lack of evidence.
