Eye Tharnduils Sons

Hi y'all

I was just wondering, in accordance with an RPG that Im currently involved in, but what are Thranduils sons called? And (roughly) how old are they?

I'm not that into RPG, but I can tell you that as far as I know, Tolkien only mentioned one son of Thranduil--Legolas. Legolas's age is also (again, as far as I know, perhaps someone may be able to correct me on this) unknown. I read on another board a while back something about a rough guess of Legolas's age. In that post was written something along the lines of Legolas being roughly the age of Arwen. I can't remember the exact details of the post, but I am pretty sure it had to do with the time Thranduil became King of Mirkwood after Oropher. Again, just what I know, someone else may be able to give you a better answer.

i was really thinking his sons other than Legolas. Legolas is he youngest (i think) and i was wondering about the oldest. than anyway.

I have also just discovered how disgracefully i have spelt the title. Sorry about that.

Thranduil.
Thranduil..
Thranduil...

No, Legolas is the only son of Thranduil mentioned. Youngest, oldest, only.

Amanaduial - I wrote the short "history" of Thranduil for the Audience With The King RPG, and 90% of it was made up out of whole cloth. Tolkien never makes any reference to Legolas' family, except for his father.

Nobody really knows the Elf's age, the name of his mother, or whether he had any brothers or sisters.

Which begs the question: as much as Tolkien loved his Elven creations, why didn't he take the time to fill in these blanks? I mean, he didn't have to write a whole background for Legolas, but a family tree would have been nice. Why leave this character such a cipher?

I suppose because he never really thought Legolas was a very important character to the fellowship. I remember a quote(not exact I'm afraid) where he said,
"Of all the members of the fellowship, Legolas accomplishes the least."

*shrugs* who knows? maybe for that reason, he felt he didn't need to give backround. It would seem odd though, considering his perfectionist nature.

Or maybe, he just never got around to it.

stupid tolkien.... leaving out character background.... considering his detail for everything else, u'd think hed give us something....

anyway.... thranduil had 2467 sons and 13 daughters, due to the 778 mistresses he kept in his expansive wardrobe.

(that is entirely made up, by the way )

That would be Quite an undertaking for anyone especially an Elf who must give up a piece of their Fea (Spirit) to produce a child! that many dependants could kill anyone WITHOUT giving up your Fea!

It does seem odd that Tolkien never made a family tree beyond Oropher to Thranduil to Legolas. In almost everything else there is a somewhat, if not entirely complete, background. This makes me wonder...
