Hmm, if it is a piece of furniture, wouldn't it have been more likely than not to have been moved to Crickhollow?
Is it a fixture or fitting of Bag End? If so, is it the hearth? EDIT: Aha! Or the mantlepiece on which the Dwarves' letter was left? (Sorry - very naughty to have two bites at the cherry, but I couldn't resist.)
