May I ask Jenny, why you have both names in your PT? I like them both individually, don't get me wrong they are lovely, but why two?

Congrats to all who recently received their personal titles. Such creativity...who knew that penguins, to my knowledge never even mentioned in all of Arda, would become so popular.

The Pearl, The Lily Maid
|
I so swore I wouldn't tell anyone the significance of these, and see if anyone other than Celuien could guess it. But I'm far to pleased with myself for thinking it up (and finding it conveniently 24 characters) not to share why I have a dual title.
It's from the Idylls of the King, by my all-time favorite poet, Alfred, Lord Tennyson. In the chapter telling the story of Lancelot and Elaine, Lancelot, trying to assuage his lover's curiousity and jealousy towards the young and pure Elaine, tells Guinevere she is the "pearl of beauty". Elaine, of course, is the lily maid from the moment she appears, and is even described as such as she lays on her barge on her final journey to Camelot. Guinevere, Gwinever, Gwenhofyr...however you spell it, Jennifer is the same name. And Elaine is my middle name. It always fascinated me that I bear the names of both of Lancelot's lovers, and I always felt a special connection with them, but never with Lancelot, the quintessential knight, and instrument of both their dooms. And, while I'm not crazy, I often feel as though I am divided between two worldviews: one cynical, jaded, and a bit hedonistic, and the other pure, innocent, and idealistic. This is probably normal. But The Pearl, the Lily Maid is me. It took me a long time to think of it, but I think it's perfect. EDIT: What's really fascinating is that both names mean the same thing: white and fair and white and smooth, respectively. (And both pearls and lilies reflect that.) Jennifer is Welsh, but Elaine is an Anglization of Helen, referring to the moon.

I don't know. The kind of riff-raff that they give a PT to around here these days ...!
Congrats all.

Jenny, yours reminds me of a start of a poem somehow
I mean, like, something along the: JennyHallu, The Pearl, The Lily Maid Looked out at three o'ckock the grey night was going; far away a golden cock clear and shrill was crowing... etc Just can't settle my mind if Peal and Maid are honorifics or there were three persons who looked out at three

I have been giving this a little thought, just incase some day I must pick a title. I am just curious to see what others think of me....I need a word that suits me and preceeds Feline, so it would be _____ Feline any thoughts?

Fated Feline?
Forgotten (which sure isn't true, but sounds nice (to me)) Feline? Sorry, nothing original now... :/ |

Fey feline sounds nice but fey has some negative meanings which may not make it suitable....

Hmmm Well I don't want to be forgotten and I am not sure what Fey means....Teehee. How about something like.... Festering Feline? Or Ummm Feisty Feline...I like that one....Hmmmmm
Edit: I just looked up Fey and I rather like the description it gave...unworldly and vague. Able to see into the future. Odd but somewhat true....well not about the future thing ...I like this one too.

What about 'Frisky Feline'? Though this may not sound sufficiently dead, it would suit my image of you.
Anyway, just don't take 'Fading'! I know somebody who is planning to combine it with 'Fëanorion' should he ever be awarded a personal title. |

Not that I think that I will be rewarded with a personal title within years (considering my post frequency and quality), but I'm a bit curious. Is there an actual limit in post number that you have to pass? And when have you that's been rewarded gotten your title? What's the "record", both in time on The Downs and in posts, for someone to get a title? I really envy you all!
And Valier, just some thoughts... How about: Fallen Feline (dark and foreboding, like it should be on the downs ) Furry Feline (a bit cuter, as are the next) Friendly Feline Frantic Feline Former Feline (again, a connection to our undead society) Feared Feline Forsaken Feline The possibilities are endless! If I ever get one, I'd like to connect my title to something balrog-ish. Something about shadow or flame maybe... How about Shadowed Silhouette? Or maybe Soaring Shadow, because they can soar, can't they? What do you think? (NOT if they can soar or not, but tips for a title...)

Bethberry made some pretty good sugestions when I talked with her last night.
Frolicking Feline was one of them. Last edited by Rune Son of Bjarne; 09-28-2006 at 06:24 AM. |

I think it that context it might be spelled "Frolicking". I'd check.
And Gothmog: 500 posts minimum, and then titles are awarded at the discretion of the admins and mods...you'll get a PM. As for records... Well for time on the 'Downs I've got to be up there, but I've also heard mormegil was quite a contender. As for posts, I have no idea. There are details in a sticky on the subject somewhere.

My first year on the BD, I was a very active member and managed to get to 500 posts within the year. If I remember correctly, it was a couple weeks after my first deathday (June 2003) I was offered a PT. I believe I had around 600 posts at the time. Even though you need to get to 500 posts (with the rare exceptions) to even be considered, it really isn't quantity that matters. I've seen members with over 2,000 posts who didn't yet have a PT....

But mainly it's about music and the creation - the creation of music in the first instance. That is so much of me. But it really took its time. I went all over again with different possibilities and asked a hundred fellows here about what to do with it. In the end Spm was right. The right one came at the "last minute" and just felt right. I had many candidates for it, one of the last was "Apple from Turin's tree", kind of relating to the Finnish origins of the story of Turin in the Kalevala, the Finnish folk epic Tolkien knew very well and from which he took many of the elvish words from (like Silmarils - being derivative from the Ilmarinen, the smith of the epic and so forth) - and which origins Rune already doubted (thanks Rune for your perspective!)...
