I think my first post needs to be changed, because I got confused and said that we were going to Bree, when actually we're going to Rivendell (as far as we know). I'd be very greatful if Pio would change that for me.

Greetings All,
I will not be on the net until Friday or Saturday evening because school has started again and it is a new grade. Today was my first day at this new school and I am already sitting with 3 assignments, so I will be back soon. Sorry I couldn’t tell you sooner, my computer was giving me problems. If something very serious happens (doubt it) email me at niluial@hotmail.com because all emails get sent to my cellphone, but please only if there is an emergency. All posts can be about Emergency meeting or before the meeting! Best Wishes, Niluial <font size=1 color=339966>[ 1:08 PM January 21, 2004: Message edited by: Niluial ]

It looks as if in Fool of a Took's last post that the Hobbits now know they can't go to Rivendell because of what the Dwarf told ElenCalaIsil's character.
Can all of you perhaps post a little on this predicament and make suggestions on where you might go instead. You'll need to pick Bree in the end, but that doesn't mean you can't think up other places. And when someone makes a suggestion, others can bring up why that might not work. And of course, there is now the added fright of hungry wargs and orcs on the loose that can be discussed. Does this sound OK?

I was really waiting for someone to perhaps tell the people outside of the house what's going on, or can my character's dad magically know about this new meeting? We need some kind of message sent out or how can the rest of us know?

Something to get the meeting started and the journey on track. I am sorry for not being here much but it is the first week of school.

I will post either today or tomorrow on how old Hob is faring, but most likely tomorrow because there has been a death in the family recently and it has resulted in most nights being spent with family eating dinner and talking long into the night.
But as soon as I get the chance I shall post, I've got the idea in my head, it just needs to be written. <font size=1 color=339966>[ 12:21 PM January 24, 2004: Message edited by: dragoneyes ]

Hi everyone!
Just thought I should post this, as it'll come in handy when we reach Bree: I can't remember the exact quote (shame on me! I'll post it when I find it!), but it say's some where that the Shire is essentialy a colony of Bree, so however strange Shire folk think Bree is, Breelanders would probably thing them stranger, and maybe even say something about how they left, and couldn't take care of themselves. This would probably be stronger than in Tolkien's books, because at the time, the Shire would be relatively new... Just my thoughts, I hope they were helpful. Does anyone else remember where there was something writen concerning the matter? I'll try to find it, but right now I should really be doing school work...

The Shire was not really a colony of Bree, that is Bree didn't think of it as England thought of the American colonies. But, in 1601, Argeleb II, 10th High King of Arthedain at Fornost, granted land beyond the Baranduin River to the many Periannath who migrated there. The peoples of Bree and the land where the Shire was founded was under the King of Arthedain's dominion. You can find a short reference to this in RotK; Appendix B and a longer one in the Prologue to FotR - Concerning Hobbits. <font size=1 color=339966>[ 3:54 PM February 02, 2004: Message edited by: piosenniel ]

It has been 16 days since you last posted on 1/23. A lapse of 2 weeks without posting and without an explanation on the discussion thread means that you have forfeited your participation in the game. Your character can now be carried by the other gamers as they wish. ~*~ Piosenniel, Shire Moderator

Since the game has lost one of its Hobbits - Gorbadic, I am going to fill the Hobbit spot.
Here's my character bio, and post is now up on the game for Madoc. _____________________________________________ NAME: Madoc Willow – second cousin to Gorbadic Willow AGE: 37 RACE: Hobbit GENDER: Male WEAPONS: Stout blackthorn walking stick; sling with a small pouch of rounded rocks for missiles; small knife used for skinning coneys APPEARANCE: Of average height for a Hobbit of his age, brown curly hair, and brown eyes. Normally a quite stout Hobbit, he has grown lean during the extended winter. His clothes hang loosely on him; brown breeches, homespun shirt, black vest, and a worn, ankle length dark brown cloak. PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: He is an even dispositioned lad, easy to be around, except for the fact he likes to play practical jokes. In these hard times, tempers are short and Madoc has been careful not to push his friends and neighbors too far. He is an excellent hunter and has a green thumb when it comes to his garden. Often shares the surplus of his hunting ventures and the garden with his neighbors. Unfortunately, there is little game to hunt and the soil so frozen that nothing will grow. He has a tin whistle on which he can passably play a number of favorite Shire tunes. And is a fair dancer, especially after a pint or two. HISTORY: Born and raised in Tuckburrough. His Da passed away just last month, caught a cold that settled in his lungs and never recovered. Food was scarce as were medicinal herbs, and the poor man just faded away. Since then, Madoc has taken care of his aging Mother, Pearl, and his younger sister, Prisca, who is thirty five. Their pantry is growing quite bare and Madoc has found himself ranging farther and farther afield for what game he can find. He has heard of the expedition being got up to venture to Bree for supplies and wishes to go along. _____________________________________________ Off to Bree, then!!

Alas for Gorbadic, but thank'ee Pio for filling in.
I have been infested with a terrible illness over the last few days, and have been constantly pestered with state testing. (curse the US o' A) But, I should get a post up soon enough as those tests are over for the time being.

Anyone feel free to talk to Hob, I don't mind at all who.
Also, would it be terribly wrong of me to ask that the word 'okay' be removed from the hobbit's vocabulary as it irks me and I don't think it's very, well, middle-earthy.
