Boots Bernard Cribbins RIP

I saw very recently the sad death of Bernard Cribbins, at the age of 93, after a very long and varied career.

I post here because, among the many characters I remember him for, he played Bilbo Baggins in the dramatisation of The Hobbit for BBC's Jackanory in 1979, of which I acquired the CDs last year. Listening to it brought back many memories of when I watched it as a 10-year-old, including those of his take on Bilbo.

While the word 'national treasure' has been very misused in the UK, I feel he fully justifies that description.

Absolutely. I feel quite bereft. He had that rare ability to get to a child’s level without talking down to them.

Thumbs up I agree with you

I agree with what you said about him, Mithalwen, which was why I felt the loss of part of my childhood when I read about his death.
