I expect lots of Tolkien fans will recall that the Inklings was originally founded by an undergraduate named Edward Tangye-Lean.

What I didn't know until just now was that ETL was the younger brother of the great film director David Lean (Lawrence of Arabia, Dr Zhivago, The Bridge on the River Kwai).

The elder Lean brother wasn't much of a student and left school at 16 to work as an accountant (!)
