Is sauron a man......elf....i know he was a servant to morgoth.When did hobbits come into existence?

I believe Sauron was a Maia.

Sauron was a Maia of Aule before he was corrupted by Morgoth.

Sauron was a maia. The maia are supposed to be on te side of good, but sauron was seduced by Melkor, he even was his most trusyed captain.

At first Sauron was a Maia of Aule, but he was soon corrupted by Melkor, afterwards named Morgoth Bauglir. In his armies he became his highest commander and was Captain of Angband. He was thrown down by Huan the Wolfhound and Luthien.
After the fall of Morgoth and his armies, Sauron almost pleaded for pardon, for he saw the greatness of the Valar, but didn't and fled to Mordor, where Barad-dur was. He was captured by the Numenoreans after a few hundred years, but that land became under his control, because he soon became highest counselor of the King, thanks to his cunning mind. He let them attack the Valar, but Iluvatar destroyed the Island and it's armies, except those that were still loyal... their ships were taken on high waves and born to M-e. Elendil was the leader of this group and he and his brothers made the realm of Gondor and Arnor. Sauron returned in Mordor and fought them and the Elves. At last the Last Alliance was made and Sauron was overthrown, his Ring was cut of finger.
