Tolkien and Cobsweb Cottage ?
Can anybody tell me if Tolkien, or his family, or any of his closest friends, ever lived in a bungalow or cottage called "Cobswebs," on Sea Road, in Milford-on-Sea?
I think this home was torn down several years ago, and rebuilt with other houses, all given hobbit names? Thank you very much |

Tolkien's only school friend to survive WW1, Christopher Wiseman, retired to Milford and Tolkien visited him there. I don't know exactly where he lived but I think this is most likely unles it was just a holiday home rented for a few weeks. I am sure it was never a permanent residence.

From his retierment from academic life until the death of his wife, Tolkien lived in Bournemouth, which is about fifteen miles from Milford-on-Sea.

Heren Istarioning .. (or TCBS revisited)
because Poison Ivy and myself went to Milford on Saturday and had a snoop at both Christopher Wiseman's house and the site of Cobblestones. One of the replacement houses was called Rivendell but I couldn't imagine Elrond living there.
