Ring The Future Of Middle Earth

I was just wondering what your thoughts were on what happens after The Return of the King appendices finish? For example people like Goldilocks and Faramir (Pippin's Son)I think! Would you like to offer any views to the other members about what you think happened to all the memorable characters in the book at end, but hardly ever mentioned? Just a thought, could be quite an interesting subject to talk about....

Silmaril

This is an opinion topic, not a Books discussion, since we can only speculate. Therefore it has been moved to the Novices and Newcomers forum.

All the mortals, including Frodo, Sam, Bilbo, Arwen and Gimli would have died, whilst the Elves would've passed west or faded.

In the HoME series there's a rejected final chapter to Lord of the Rings where Sam reads the Red Book to his children and they meet Aragorn at the border of the Shire.

In LoTR it mentions that Eomer and Aragorn were victorious in battle n many foreign fields.

Tolkien also started to write a book based a few generations after Aragorn's time in which evil was returning to Gondor, but gave it up because he thought it would be no better than an ordinary thriller. This is in HoME 12(I think)

Not a silly question!!

HoME is the History of Middle Earth Series written by Christopher Tolkien (and available in all good bookshops!).

It deals with the history of how the Middle Earth stories were written, so contains a lot of interesting unpublished material early versions and rejected ideas. Essential only if you're a real Tolkien addict, the thing to move onto after the Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales.

Wait, didn't Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin eventually go with Gandalf and some of the other elves to the Undying Land? That's what my sister told me...but she hasn't read the books in like ten years. =^.^=;;

Ah, a very good question.

1) All the elves left.
2) Dwarves bred into the human race; hence modern-day "little people."
3) Something happens which makes men stupid and scattered about Earth.
4) Eventually, new civilizations rise.
5) We are born.

All that took about 9000 years. We are now in the Seventh Age.

Oh yeah....hobbits are still around in Britain, but they're all hiding. Waiting for the revolution or something....

I know everyone keeps insisting that all the elves left ME. But isn't it possible that since some had never left ME to go to Valinor and some never completed the great journey, they flet tied to ME and never tired of it. I like to think that some of the silvan elves remained as did the hobbits and dwarves.

Tate Aisling - It says in the Appendices that Merry and Pippin were laid to rest beside Aragorn at their death . If that helps!

All Elves didn't leave M-E. Some of the Avari and Silvan Elves remained and faded.
