The Barrow-Downs Birthday Party Musical Guest Book
(Note: This thread is a companion to the Barrow Birthday Party thread. It is located on this forum temporarily to be in the vicinity of its companion thread and will be moved to the Mirth forum when the party ends. Those who then wish to add their musical greetings may continue to do so there.)
This guestbook is our present for The Barrow-Wight; we wish to thank and honour him for the wonderful forum he founded five years ago! Please do so with a Barrow (or Middle-earth) version of a song - you may use only the title or quote appropriate original or changed parts of the lyrics. Here is my contribution: Under the Barrow Under the Barrow Away from the Yellow Face Under the Barrow Discussing WK's mace Under the Barrow Whether serious or fun Under the Barrow We'll never be done Haunting the Barrow. Happy Birthday, Barrow-Downs! Die long and prosper! Estelyn

Here's a bit of loverly lyrics for you all and of course, BW.
Barrow Picnic When I find the living a bore there's a place I go, I answer the ghoul, Go over the wall, Where the barrows are all in a row, Mind the trees get down on my knees, There's a hole in the hill, I look around that I won't be found, And sit down next to it's grave. If you squirm at the barrow worm, This is no place for thee, Or if you fright at the mere sight, of the corpse of our Bethberry, If you fear there's something you hear, A heart beating under the hill, Still your heart there's no need to start, It's just me having tea with Piosenniel. Sit here on the ground, Dead hobbits in the trees all around you, Come enter this land, Take this Book in your hand. If you find the living a bore, There's a place you can go, Answer the ghoul, Go over the wall, Where the barrows are all in a row, Mind the trees get down on your knees, Sneak in just like The Phantom, Look around though you won't be found, It's just you, Barrow Wight and me. I tried to add as many names from our beloved forum, and that of middle earth in and around the downs. Happy Deathday Barrow Downs Forum! ~ Musical Ka

To the Wight in White Satin with thanks!
(to the tune of: Nights In White Satin by the MOODY BLUES, Beautiful Lyrics slightly butchered by one Hilde Bracegirdle) Roaming the Barrow-downs, Never reaching the end, Posts I've written, Never meaning to send. Passages I’d always missed With these eyes before, Just how canonical the Silm. is I can't say anymore. But I love it, Yes, I love it, And it is HoME here. Gazing at wights, Some hand in hand, Some post I’ve read, I just can’t understand. Some try to tell me Thoughts they cannot defend, Just what you want it to be It will be in the end. But I love it, Yes, I love it, And it is HoME here. |

A song, for his Mighty-Wightiness.
To the tune of "Even Flow" by Pearl Jam. B-Wight, rests his head on a pillow made of concrete Oh hopin', maybe he'll see a little better set of posts And he heads down, faces that he sees are a little bit familiar Oh Mirthies, he can't stand when they're off-topic and insane Barrow-downs Thoughts arrive like Balrog-wings Oh, no-one knows So they talk of them all day-ay-ay Someday they'll They'll talk pointy ears again Ears again Formless, streams of sad sounds against the morning now bereaved Oh, never more to wake until the Sun and Moon are dead Feelin', understands the weather or that Bombadil's on his way Oh ceilings, cave in and fall when stupid rhyming words are said Barrow-downs Thoughts arrive like Balrog-wings Oh, no-one knows So they talk of them all day-ay-ay Someday they'll talk pointy ears again Typing hands, carry him away Him away, him away Yeah!

The humble contribution of Thenamir
Congratulations on five great years! (To the tune of Don McLean's "American Pie") A long long time ago, In a darkened barrow-way, A wight was sleeping, nightmare-like Dreaming of his former chance to squish those men like little ants Away up in the North near Deadman's Dike The men of Westernesse did quiver And many foes did he de-liver But then he made a misstep And fell without one more step The wight awoke and then he cried, Not sad, but lo, for joy inside, He loves it in the afterlife, The day B W died. My, my this here Barrow-wight guy He can party really hearty once he opens his eyes, He slept too long, but this party still flies Singin' "Hey man, all your ale kegs are dry!" "Hey man, all your ale kegs are dry!"

Take the Ring
(To the tune of Drive My Car, by the Beatles) By myself and my brother, High King Fingolfin I asked young Frodo what he wanted to be, He said "Gandalf, can't you see? I want adventures, like uncle Bilbo Even though I don't know where to go." Frodo you must take the Ring, Or aid to Sauron it will bring. Frodo you must take the Ring, Or Sauron will get it. I told Frodo that his prospects were good, And he said "Gandalf, it's understood Being a hobbit is all very fine But will this show me a better time?" Frodo you must take the Ring, Or aid to Sauron it will bring. Frodo you must take the Ring, Or Sauron will get it. Hobbits 'n' hobbits, yeah! Frodo you must take the Ring, Or aid to Sauron it will bring. Frodo you must take the Ring, Or Sauron will get it. I told young Frodo he could start right away And he said "Listen Gandalf, I got something to say I wield no ring and it's breaking my heart But I am a bearer and that's a start." Frodo you must take the Ring, Or aid to Sauron it will bring. Frodo you must take the Ring, Or Sauron will get it. Hobbits 'n' hobbits, yeah! Hobbits 'n' hobbits, yeah!

Of the many poems I added to the proceedings, this was my favourite;
Now, once, although his time is long due
There was old man, dressed in blue he never wandered far from his home There were many, who would pick a bone, With him while he still had time So he'd sit and wait till the weather was fine. He'd dance about while some made a toast, to the business of the one who'd boast, No one would catch the old man in his land But there are no battlements that are manned While the old dogs howl with sadness We know that the willow grows in madness No one has ever caught him, he's the master Do you know him? No one is faster. He'll never be seen down by a mill, His name is Tom Bombadill!
