Shelob
So, what happened to Frodo when Shelob bit him? Did he just like go comatose? How did he get out of her layer, and why was he naked when Sam found him. why did Sam leave him!!! That made me mad!

Let's see if I post fast enough to be the first one! Ok, well Frodo was bit by Shelob and Shelob is a big nasty ugly spider. And she had poison in her so when she bit Frodo, he was poisoned and it made him very sick. Sam had to leave him, hoping that he'd find Frodo when he came back. But he had to leave him because he was also with Frodo for another reason-if Frodo failed, saving Middle-Earth was up to Sam. And he knew that. Yeah but I was upset that Sam left him too, just thinking about it made me feel bad for Sam cuz he didn't want to leave him anyway. Am I done, or should I write more? I think I'll let others say something now

Sam left Frodo because he thought that he was dead.
Shelob didn't kill him because she doesn't like to eat dead prey, they must still be alive - but Sam didn't know this. After Sam went on to continue the quest (thinking Frodo dead) he heard Orcs assembling around where he had left Frodo. Now, the Orcs knew that he was not dead, so they kidnapped (in a manner of speaking) him and took him to their tower. There, they took away Frodo's clothes and left him locked in the topmost part of the tower. That's where Sam found him. I imagine that when they found Frodo they stripped him because they were looking for the ring (but Sam had it, he he). |

The Orcs know Shelob has not killed Frodo, because one of their mates disappeared in her lair, and they later found him, alive, hanging in a web upside down!! Of course, being Orcs, they left him...charming, really...

Didn’t it go like this?
As we all know Shelob was the largest and nastiest of the Great Spiders to survive the destruction of Beleriand. By the Third Age her offspring had taken over large parts of Mirkwood, while Shelob stayed in her den in Cirith Ungol, where she fed on any race who tried to enter Mordor (that passed through the mountains). In the year 3000 she captured Gollum, but let him go so he might bring more victims. In 3019 Gollum then brought Frodo and Samwise to her lair. Like we all know Shelob paralyzed Frodo with her venom. She would have consumed him but Samwise blinded Shelob with the Light of the Phial of Galadriel, then he severely wounded Shelob with an Elf Blade. It then appeared she crept away to die in her lair… Could someone clear this up or correct me. ~Niluial [ October 01, 2003: Message edited by: Niluial ]

Thats pretty much it, Niluial. Although we don't get to know if Shelob does indeed die of Sam's attack as Tolkien writes. I would think it unlikely that she died.. perhaps she shared the same fate as her foremother, consuming herself once she could find no more prey..

Oh ok.

But if Samwise blinded and wounded Shelob then in that case he didn’t really leave Frodo… he helped him! ~Niluial [ October 01, 2003: Message edited by: Niluial ]
