The Round-About Game
Welcome to the Round-About Game! In this thread, players try to link two seemingly unrelated topics in a 'round-about' way. Ok, that didn't make sense, did it? Let me explain again....
THE ROUND-ABOUT GAME I'll start you off. One person (in this case, me) will provide two people, places, objects, or ideas, (at least one of which must be ME related) and you, the viewer, must figure out how they relate to each other. WARNING- this may take some thought. I'm just pulling two random thoughts out of that scary, untamed place called my mind. The topics may be anything from Smeagol to cherry yogurt. Hey, that sounds like an example! EXAMPLE- (I will say) From Cherry Yogurt to Smeagol (You will come up with something like) Cherry yogurt is pink. Roses are pink. Rosie Cotton is named after a rose. Rosie married Samwise. Samwise went to Mordor with Frodo, who was guided by SMEAGOL!! See? You get from point A to point B in a ROUND-ABOUT sort of way! If you like, you may suggest your own round-about topic after you answer a previous one. ALL ENTRIES, TOPICS AND ANSWERS, MUST BE APPROPRIATE! THAT MEANS NO VULGER LANGUAGE CONTENT OR THE SO-CALLED 'POTTY HUMOR'! GOT THAT? Okay then. FIRST TOPIC- From zebras to Arwen Go for it! Have fun, and good luck! ~Maegaladiel, the nearsighted elf

I do this all the time! Good idea by the way! Now, let's see zebras to Arwen, that shouldn't be to hard....
Zebras are four-hooved creatures and Bill the pony was a four hooved creature, he was with Sam, who was with Frodo, who was taken to Rivendell by.... Arwen! There was a shorter route (horses=Asfoloth=Arwen), but that was to easy! Here's another one! SECOND TOPIC~ Purple flowers to Mithrandir(Gandalf) Let's see how you handle that!

Kingsfoil is a plant used by Aragorn to heal Faramir. Faramir falls in love with Eowyn! Yippie! This is fun. Here goes: Pink Fingernail Polish to Hobbit Songs
Pink fingernail polish comes in a bottle. Ale sometimes comes in a bottle. Hobbits like to drink ale. Sometimes when they drink too much ale they sing silly Hobbit Songs. Next Topic - The Zoo to Gimli

Zoos are places where you can find bears. Bears live in caves. Dwarves live in caves. Gimli is a dwarf.

Apologies for messing around.
Oh, and it should in fact be Finduilas to Faramir, not Eowyn. My mistake. And its not mother-to-son. There's a longer link. I won't go into it. I'm the one who collects the obscure information. It gets me into weird situations... [ May 15, 2003: Message edited by: Meela ]

I shall try again! I had all the information typed up and posted, but it seems Meela, that all that showed up, was Dol Amroth. Sorry about that. Let me explain.
Finduilas is daughter of Adrahil of Dol Amroth, Lothiriel is daughter of Imrahil, also of Dol Amroth, Lothiriel was wed to Eomer, Eomer is brother of Eowyn, Eowyn was wed to Faramir. As I said eariler, Dol Amroth! Though not six steps, there are other, more abstract ways to conect the two.... Finduilas was ".... as a flower of the seaward vales set upon a barren rock. The shadow in the east filled her with horror, and she turned her eyes ever south to the sea that she missed.", the sea was the subject of the song of Legolas', Legolas was a part of the FOTR, Boromir was also a member of the FOTR, Boromir was brother to Faramir, Faramir was wed to Eowyn. That got you as far as Eowyn, hope that was understandable! PM me if not! (good question by the way) Continuing on.... NEXT TOPIC!!! Snowshoes to Azog(the orc that killed Thror, a king of dwarven folk)

No takers? Fine I'll struggle on alone.
Snowshoes are, well, shoes, and shoes are worn on feet, except for hobbits, they don't wear shoes, hobbits are short, like the dwarven folk, the dwarven folk went to war with Azog. There, was that so hard now? Here's a new one, we won't be so hard on the lonely people now will we, Oh no, we will be nice yes we willsssss. I'm done. Topic, Next: Green Fuzzy Slippers to Saruman

Green Fuzzy Slippers to Saruman.
Generally, people wear fuzzy slippers (at least sometimes green) when they are lounging around, such as when they've just woken up. In the "Movie Bloopers" thread, I made a joke in which Saruman has just woken up when he sees the Ents outside. Of course he was wearing green fuzzy slippers. Next topic. John Grisham to Pippin.

John Grisham is a writer. He uses a computer (work with me here). Computers connect to the Internet. Barrow-Downs is on the Internet. The Barrow-Downs is a site about Lord of the Rings. Lord of the Rings tells about Faramir. Faramir is the name of Pippin's son.

Okie-Dokie, Fax Machines to Galadriel...
Fax Machines send messages from one person to another. The Palantir sends messages from one person to another. Saruman had a Palantir. Saruman sent Uruk-Hai to Helm's Deep. Haladir fought Uruk Hai at Helm's Deep. Haladir was an elf. He came from Lorien. Galadriel was from Lorien!!! NEXT TOPIC Cottage cheese to Gil-Galad

Cottage Cheese to Gil-Gilad? No worries!
Cottage cheese is well, a cheese. Cheese is made from cows. Cows are found in the shire. Sam also comes from the shire. Sam recited some of the "Fall of Gil-Galad" (well the translation anyway.). The Fall of Gil-Galad was about.. Gil-Galad surprisingly. TA-DA!!!! Grand Pianos to Shelob. Ha, go figure that one out.

Wheee! My topic is actually LIKED!!
Okay, white out to entmoot. This should be interesting... White-Out is like Liquid Paper. Paper is made of trees. Ents look like trees. Ents go to Entmoot. That wasn't especially drawn-out and "round-about", but whaddaya gonna do, fire me? Oh wait, better not give anyone ideas. Whoops, someone just did that. So I'll do Arfangwen's topic. HAIRPINS TO ARAGORN'S SWORD Hairpins hold hair. Glorfindel's name means "Golden Hair". Glorfindel saved Frodo from the Nasgul. (AT LEAST HE WAS SUPPOSED TO!!!) Aragorn was supposedly protecting Frodo. Aragorn has a sword! Yay! This is fun! NEXT TOPIC- From James Bond to Barliman Butterburr Now THIS should be interesting... I could be easy and say James Bond is a man and so is Barliman Butterbur... but thats dull.
Or James Bond was in Goldeneye as was Sean Bean. Sean Bean plays a character named Boromir who met Aragorn, who met Barliman Butterbur. Someone else can do the amusing and unexpected version. Next one: Elvis Presley to Celeborn.

Denethor is the father of Boromir, who knew Frodo, who is the main character in The Lord of the Rings, LOTR was handwritten on paper, the manuscript was typed on a typewriter, a typewriter is an early form of the keyboard.
Thus Denethor>Boromir>Frodo>LOTR>handwritte n manuscript>typewriter>keyboard. Phew! that was hard! Now: Elves to a Calendar( Where did that come from?) Namarie

A calendar has dates. Faramir and Éowyn dated (somewhat). Faramir captured Frodo and Sam earlier. Frodo and Sam knew Boromir before he died. Boromir went to Rivendell to get information on a dream. Rivendell is home of Elrond. Elrond is an elf. Screwdrivers to Woses

OOps, I cross posted with two people
Purple elephants are related to Oliphants (I think), Faramir fought Southeners with Oliphants, Faramir is Boromir's brother, Boromir was in the Fellowship, Aragorn was in the Fellowship too, Aragorn married Arwen. Thus: Purple elephants>Oliphants>Faramir>Boromir> Fellowship>Aragorn>Arwen Trash Cans to Aragorn Some trash cans are plastic, plastic is replacing metal in many places, a kind of metal is steel, swords are made of steel, Aragorn had a sword. Thus: Trash cans>Plastic>metal>steel>swords >Aragorn Next: Clowns to Legolas [ May 16, 2003: Message edited by: Novlamothien ] [ May 16, 2003: Message edited by: Novlamothien ] [ May 16, 2003: Message edited by: Novlamothien ]
