Some reasons why I took this alias I have: - it's orcish, and I like orcs - it means "Old Man", and age is something I respect greatly - "Old Man" is somehow ironic for my person - "Old Man" has an air of wisdom, and still decrepitude, infirmity, so to say - it sounds nicely grim - it refers to Saruman, one of the most interesting characters, and also a rebel - it is a clear Tolkien reference, but not as obvious as others <h6> Like yapping dogs Blind lead the blind Those who chain the future Are those time leaves behind Is glory now gone? My nickname comes from one of my relatives, Elsye Mitchell. She died along with a group of children because of the Fugo project(Giant paper balloons with bombs strapped to them sent over the pacific). Plus I really like it a lot!!

I find myself to be most hobbit-like, in looks and personality. I saw a drawing of Rose Cotton and it was titled 'Rosielass'. I thought that was cute. And I didn't want an actual characters' name, to kind of be myself. [ February 07, 2003: Message edited by: hobbitlass ]

In case Sharku should come across this thread again...
Quote:
Anyway, how did I get my nick? Well, actually it simply popped out of the good, old name-generator. But since Maika means sharp some people came to the conclusion, that it fits perfectly for my rather sharp tongue, since I usually say what's on my mind. And Mithadan, like I said on another thread, I simply refuse to believe the translation of that nick fits very well. You're too young for that, my friend! I thought Merri was a more feminine form of Merry, which seems to be more of a name than Pippin, and besides, it looks cooler
But, of course, that was before I knew Peregrin meant journey. *sigh*

Maika, I am neither old (comparitively, though some might disagree) nor grey (except my eyes). Mithadan is an elvish version of a real life nickname. There is, by the way, an alternative translation for "mith".

Several people have already guessed correctly that "Orual" comes from C.S. Lewis' "Till We Have Faces," which I had just finished when I registered. I like the way it sounds, I liked the character, and I liked the fact that it started with an "O", because not many peoples' nicks start with an "O".

I can't believe I haven't posted here so far. Well Balin is just one of my favourite characters, I can't really say why. Maybe because he was a close friend of Bilbo, maybe because I like the Dwarves and caves and all that, too. And the 999 is an upside down 666, which comes from a computer game I played where I wanted to be named Sauron666, which didn't work, so I became Sauron999.
There you go.

The Saucepan Man - hmmm...where *does* your nickname come from?
I think I've explained mine once or twice before, but for those who haven't seen. My name (not legally, but the one everyone uses) is Mary, which phonetically jibes rather well with Merry Brandybuck, who also happens to be one of my favourite characters (co-favourite with Faramir). Merry or Mary seemed a little obvious, so I chose to go with the "real" Westron version of Meriadoc, which is Kalimac. So it's sort of a lame, inverted pun. But I'm happy with it.
