Seeing as HerenIstarion's great thread Quote of the Day threatens to lose its currency

I thought it perhaps best to start a thread where we can bring to attention posts or quotations from years past which merit acclaim and attention still. These are posts which shine with some refracted light of the simarils or which bear some fruit of the One White Tree: despite the passage of time, they still reward reading, as wit, good humour, perception always do. (And should I add, show by their very nature the limitations of chat?
