Boots The Elfish Gene

davem gave me a new book this morning that I had to post about on here because I think certain Downers (especially those who grew up in the 70s or 80s) will enjoy it. It's not in 'New Books' because it's not about Tolkien, but it does belong on here because it's stuffed full of Tolkien references.

The Elfish Gene by Mark Barrowcliffe

It's basically one of these books about growing up that you get so many of these days but about a lad who was heavily into D&D. Now I was banned from playing D&D - my brother used to have all his mates round to play it and I was allowed to watch but never to join in, not that this stopped me from reading all the manuals. So this book's been really making me laugh and cringe a bit. It's got some adult stuff as it would do, being about adolescent boys, but it makes me want to go off and write about my own nerdy life as a Tolkien fan

So, who's going to fess up to being a D&D fan now or in the past? I'd love to give it a go, but everyone just seems to be into Magic these days
