Notice Board for - Midsummer Maulings (Moderated by Mithalwen)
*rubs hands gleefully*
I have been expecting you.......... Please read the proposal for the game carefully before you sign up. It is vital for the game to work properly that all participants are able to be involved. Because some rules are different this time, passivity and non-participation are not acceptable. since I want only 12 players it should be a short game and so I think it is reasonable to expect you to know whether they will be available to post. Time frame. I did not expect WW4 to finish quite so quickly and anticpated starting on Monday. However assuming I get 12 players quickly, I intend to start on Sunday afternoon. This is because I may not be able to post on Saturday and the time will allow me to do preparations to speed the game once it has started...... Days and Nights will last up to 24 hours but may be shorter if a lynching is agreed quicker and the night time requests are submitted promptly. However participants should remember that due to work I may not be able to start a new day or night instantly the decisions are made. And this may effect the timings. Basically, I should be able to check in briefly shortly before 9am BST ( GMT =1), again for longer between 1 and 2 o'clock but I will be online most in the early evening. The Game The players represent a village, and each member of the village has a role, which is kept secret. Most players are Ordinary Villagers, but three are Werewolves, one is a Seer, one a Hunter, one a Guardian, one Mythomaniac. The goal of the villagers is to eliminate all of the werewolves. Likewise, the goal of the werewolves is to eliminate the villagers, which they can do if the number of non-werewolves is equal or less than the number of werewolves. Gameplay The game consists of two different phases: Night and Day. The game begins with a short Night post before the first Day. Night Night lasts 24 hours, or less if all night-time activity is completed before then. During Night, The Werewolves may PM one another. The Werewolves must PM the Moderator about who they have chosen to kill. The Seer must PM the Moderator concerning their Dream. The Hunter must PM the Moderator concerning who they want to kill if they die. The Guardian must PM the Moderator concerning who they want to protect. The Hunter and the Guardian will know each other's identities and may PM each other in order that their choices do not conflict. The mythomaniac will be asked to choose another player on night 2. They will take on the same role as that person for the remainder of the game. If they choose another ordinary villager they will remain an ordinary villager and not reveal openly that they were the mythomane (they will of course klnow that another person is innocent......). If they choose a werewolf they will become a werewolf and be introduced to their furry friends. If they choose Seer they will become a second seer. However they will not be able to communicate. If they become a guardian or hunter they will be introduced to their fellow "angels". The mythomaniac's new powers will not take effect the next day. So if the mythomaniac is the wolves chosen victim on night 2.... well they stay dead and don't become a wolf nor can they "hunt". Neither can they dream or guard. The earliest the mythomane could use their newly gained powers would be they became a hunter and were lynched next day..... Day Day lasts 24 hours, or less if all day-time activity is completed before then. During the daytime the villagers all wake up and find that one of their own has been killed by the werewolves. At this point at least one player is a werewolf and so someone is gonna get lynched. During this phase all players, including werewolves who have assumed villager form, must publicly discuss their suspicions. Eventually it will reach a point where villagers start to cast votes for who they feel is a werewolf and must be lynched. Votes are retractable and are cast by embolden a name with a ++ sign before it, all in capitals, e.g. ++Mithalwen. At the end of the Day (or earlier if a majority is reached before this) the player with the most votes is lynched (killed) and their secret role is revealed. If votes are tied at the end of a full 24hr day a player will be selected at random from ALL PLAYERS LIVING AND UNDEAD and will be deemed to have been killed in the crush of the mob.. To retract a vote embolden the name with -- before it and cast a new vote. EG: -- Mithalwen ++ Erenor. If you retract a vote and do not give a new vote you will be deemed to have voted for yourself. DO NOT CHANGE YOUR VOTE BY EDITING. YOU MUST NOT EDIT POSTS. TO CHANGE A VOTE MAKE A NEW POST USING THE PROCESS ABOVE. I trust that other players will deal appropriately with those who either do not vote, or appear to abuse the retractable vote. It is allowed so that villagers may be persuaded and rethink not for random rabble rousing. Persistent offenders may find themselves meeting unexpected ends. When the lynching is finished all the villagers go back to their homes to sleep and the next Night begins. Winning The villagers win if they kill all of the werewolves. The werewolves win if they kill enough villagers so that their numbers are equal. At this point the werewolves can openly rise up and slaughter the rest of the villagers. Roles (in slightly more detail): Ordinary Villagers: All they have to do is deduce the werewolves by Day. Werewolves: Choose one person to kill per Night by PMing one another and discussing their ideas, then PM the Moderator with this decision. Werewolves may not PM each other during Day. During Day, they should try to avoid detection as werewolves. Seer: Chooses one person to Dream about each Night. The role of this person is revealed only to the Seer. During Day, the Seer should use this information to influence the debate as inconspicuously as possible. The Werewolf Hunter: If the Hunter is killed by a Werewolf or hanged by Villagers, he/she names one other player before being killed. That player is then automatically killed. The Hunter should PM the Moderator each Night to say who they want to kill if they die during night. If the Hunter is lynched during Day, there might be a small delay in the beginning of the next Night as they will need to contact the Moderator The Guardian: Each night, the Guardian names another player. If that player is the Werewolf victim, the victim survives and there is no death that night. The Guardian and the Hunter may confer at night in order that their requests do not compete. Discrepancies Compromising privacy: You can say you're a villager/seer/werewolf, etc. all you want, but under no circumstances should you post anything that would give your claim absolute credibility. You are not allowed to post any PMs or other private conversation between yourself and the game moderator. Infractions of this rule are grounds for immediately disqualification from that game and all future games. Outside interference: Once you are killed in a werewolf game you should no longer post in the thread, or the Werewolf I thread, or communicate with players that are still alive in the game. You're dead. Dead people tell no tales. Breaching of this rule will result in disqualification from all future games. Private Messages: Players may not PM one another about the game; all discussion must be open. The exceptions are the Werewolves, who may only PM one another during Night, and the Guardian and Hunter who may PM each other at Night. Please remember to keep space for PMs from other players or the Moderator, if relevant. Role Play: I am not overly keen on this as the pretence soon slips - however there will be acertain amount of characterisation - further details will be communicated to accepted players. So rather than fake villagers, regard yourselves as participants in a Murder Mystery party set in a pre-industrial society..... So while, faux-rural accents will not be generally required (nor appreciated by teh moderator!), please remember you are playing a game not presenting a draft treaty to the European Parliament. I hope that the retractable vote will reduce the need for lengthy hypotheses ..... the moderator reserves the right execute anyone who bores her to sobs (if only this were an option in Real life...) Absences: As I said, if you don't think you can give this game sufficient time over its expected life of a week, please do not sign up. If there are truly unforseen circumstances contact me ASAP. Please remember to stay invisible. You can do this by going to User CP, change options and clicking the Invisible Mode button. Rules: -Rule 1 Read all the above carefully - Rule 2 No whinging - Rule 3 See Rule 1 - Rule 4 The moderator is always right and her decision is final -Rule 5 No whinging -Rule 6 There is no rule 6. If you have any queries or think you may have spotted my deliberate mistake (ie anything I have inadvertantly forgotten or not thought of) post them. Otherwise sign up below (name only - no role necessary at this point) and I will PM with further destructions... acknowledgements to TGWBS for ripping of his rules...
