Did Tolkien find the idea of war honourable?
I've always wondered this. The books does tend to characterise the most esteemed and honoured men in society as being good fighters which suggests a yes.
However, I don't know how anyone who lived, as JRR did, through both World Wars, could possibly be of this opinion. Any thoughts?
