I'm doing a report on Ents....
Hey - to anyone who can help me - I'm doing a paper for English on the Ents, and I have a serious lack of good solid info. on them. I've been searching the web for days, and there's nothing in the library.....if anybody has any good links or books, please let me know! Thank you!

Try using the site's Search
But for now, here's some info I quickly found for you. 01. Ents are also called "Tree Herders" and "Shepherds of the Forest". 02. Treelike in appearance, they primarily reside in Fangorn Forest (Entwood). 03. Though all of them resemble trees, Ents come in many different shapes, sizes and colors. 04. They all have slow musical voices and their native language is Entish. 05. Despite their different ages, they all have the same slow, steady, thoughtful expression. 06. An Entmoot is when the Ents gather together to discuss important matters. 07. Treebeard is also known as "The Eldest" because he is the oldest being in Middle-Earth. |

Try going to this site: Ardalambion
It usually has a LOT of information in each entry, and I think it might help you out.

It may be worthy to note that Ent language (which Elentari correctly identified as Entish), takes an extremely long time. Words as simple as "hill" or greetings as simple as "hello" or "good afternoon" take many hours to say in the long, creaking, unhasty droll of the Ents. The Ents were created by Yavanna, one of the Valar, to watch after her beloved forests, which she felt were threatened by Melkor and by her husband Aule's creations, the Dwarves, who were ever in need of natural resources for their work. They befriended the Elves who wandered the forests in the First Age and woke up sleeping trees. Of old they had wives, known as (go figure) Entwives, and their offspring were called Entings. As Treebeard relays in short to Merry and Pippin in The Two Towers, the Entwives abandoned the Ents many long years ago, and the Ents sought in vain for them but eventually began to discontinue their searches. It is never stated by Tolkien whither the Entwives went (although I have my own theories ). The last big deed of the Ents that we know about is their sack of Isengard. Hope that helps! <font size=1 color=339966>[ 6:19 PM December 09, 2003: Message edited by: Lord of Angmar ]

Dude, that sounds fun!!!
Hmmm, depending on the nature of your report, you may want to mention how they were "awakened" by the elves (remember, the elves spoke to the trees) and how they don't say anything unless it's worth taking the time to say. I guess talk about their whole attitude and beliefs about life and the world in general and how it compares/contrasts with those of the humans, elves, dwarves, and hobbits (hee hee, insert Merry and Pip in you report! ). Hope my insanity helps. |
