Admin thread for Werewolf XXXI: The Unknown Enemies
Welcome to the thirty-first game of Werewolf to be played here (actually, more than that, as WWJ wasn't included in the "official" saga).
Background: In the lands to the east, beyond the known world, lies a village of Men, nestled in a mountain valley. Yet even in this strange land, evil is lurking. For strange reports have arrived, reports of evil creatures taking the form of Men by day, with few survivors to report on their numbers. This game has an interesting twist on it, in that the roles are not going to be spelled out for everyone at the beginning of the game. There could be four Wolves, no Seer, two Rangers, a Werebear, a Mythomaniac, or whatever... but the average player will not know. This is going to be a very large game, and I'd like about 20 players, plus a co-mod to work out a few issues. You may sign up starting now. Players Brinniel (Clumsy blacksmith) Gil-Galad (Wild Bandito) Glirdan (Gibbering local hermit who suffers from insomnia) Legate of Amon Lanc (Uruk chieftan in retirement) Macalaure (Ninja Wizard) Mithalwen (Potter) Meneltarmacil (Time traveler from the future) Nogrod (Well-known nincompoop-miller who always thinks he's right) Rikae (Anachronistic motion capture actor) Roa_Aoife the guy who be short (Baker) The Sixth Wizard (Magician who is Lousy and Rubbish) Thinlómien xyzzy (Traveling Merchant)

I have time...and I like surprises, count me in Menel. Though just as heads up Tuesdays I am going to be extremely busy...other than that I'm in.

After searching for a new forum to play Werewolf on, I found... here!
I'm liking what I'm seeing: a game I'm in right now began with 38 players, two evil teams, two one man teams, and so far 14 days. I like simple games, though... A game I did had about 10-15 conversions, and 2 or 3 rezzes. It came down to two players who ended up being insanely overpowered. But anyway, I'll stop rambling, and say I'd like to play! Co-mod? Argh, that's always confusing; I've never understood it. Of course, most of the games I've been in get so insane we'd find one of the mods dead on the ground by about day three. |

Usually, the mod and co-mod (if the co-mod even exists as an in-game character, which hasn't happened much to my knowledge) automatically die during Night One, so they don't actually play a role in-game.
Anyhow, welcome to the forum, xyzzy. I hope you like it here.

Well, I absolutely loved playing my first WW game and am quite anxious to participate in another.
So...I am definitely in. After all, as a newbie to the game, I need as much experience as I can get.

I'm in. Especially if there's no seer.
xyzzy, I think I know what you're talking about, and Werewolf is a little different here. You might want to read through a few of our last games, and the first bit of the main Tol-in-Gaurhoth thread to get a handle on the rules. WW XXX was the last game played, and it's a pretty good example of how typical games go. That game won't be exactly the same as this one, especially with all the surprises promised, but it should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect. Other than that, good luck!

Well, I have a little more time on my hands, so I guess it wouldn't be murder for me to have an attempt at another attempt for a Werewolf game. Sign me up Menel!

If anyone was hoping I'd sit the next game out, he or she was sadly mistaken! Sign me up!
PS - I love the 'hidden roles' feature...this looks like itll be loads of fun, Menel - I hope I get to stick around a little longer than I did in the last game! |

As this seems to be somewhat slow to gear up you could count me in too.
I thought of taking a break from werewolf (again), but as this seems to be taking it's time I believe I've had break enough until this begins. And surprises always make the game more interesting... not automatically better but anyhow much more addictive for those few Days one is alive...

Menel, what will the day/night deadline for this game be?

List edited, Roa's in. Thanks, Macalaure.
I was thinking 5:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time would work for the Day/Night switch. Are you thinking of signing up, Mac?

Stupid me substracted six hours from the deadline and therefore hesitated. Smart me adds six hours and finds deadline to be perfect.
Count me in! Btw, that's a really slow going sign-up once more. Come on, folks! |

Well, nine players have signed up, which means eleven more will be needed.
Don't forget to choose an occupation, either.

5 pm seems good enough. It should give me enough time to get back from classes, read through the thread, and vote before the deadline.
Hmm...I have not done an occupation before. I shall start brainstorming on this... Eleven more...well, we don't even have half the players yet. Hurry and sign up, people! Right now, I could really use a werewolf game to distract me from this misery I call homework.

5 pm will be rough for me- I typically won't be off work till 6, which means I'll only be around for the first 8 hours of the day, at best.
Oh well, maybe the wolves will kill me on Night 2 again and the problem will be solved! Are we looking for random professions, serious professions, period professions....?

Well, I'd say the professions could be either standard village trades such as farmer, blacksmith, etc., or you could try a silly or unusual one like "Gibbering maniac who escaped from the local asylum."
We need more sign-ups, people! Don't let Werewolf die!

Occupation, eh? Alrighty, I can do that...
Traveling Merchant! 'Tis a hard life, trying to get poor, mud-slinging peasants to buy your merch'. But I get by with the knowledge that someday a nice young prince will ask to buy the "Secret Wares", and then I shall be rich forever. ...Now to go prince-hunting. |

Curse werewolf...
Count me in, please.
This game will never start and Barrow-Downs werewolf-games will never continue unless you get more players. So I'm playing even though I kind of decided to have a pause 'til I have a net access home. (And if the recruitment and signing in continues at this phase, I might even have it when this game starts... )

I would like to enter this game as my very first Werewolf. I think I have the rules worked out to the full, pretty sure I have the time to spare, want to become a Ghost Prince of Cardolan quicker (hehe, you didn't hear that) and don't object to getting a little addicted!
The only real problem is the Day/Night timetable. If by Eastern Daylight Time you mean Eastern USA then my time is ten hours behind in Australia, making the switch at 7am for me. This means that I will need to post between 7pm and 7am (the day and night are 12 hours each, right?) if I'm a Day denizen! I just don't know how this will work as I will probably miss the vote a few times... |

No need to worry: the days and nights are 24 hours each, so you will have the possibility to play whenever your daily schedule allows. And let me tell you there's nothing better for a good night's sleep than going to bed not knowing whether you'll still be in the game the next morning.
Great to have a new player on board! Concerning occupation, I will be a... Ninja Wizard! Flame of Udűn, you shall not pass! Or I'll poke your nose with throwing stars! |

Could anyone describe to me what the more complex roles are and how they fit in? For instance, what does a 'werebear' do, or was that just a joke?

The werebear's role is pretty simple. The bear (or some other werecreature) kills one villager each night independently of the wolves. The bear is not allied with the wolves and does not know who they are. The bear and the wolves are just as dangerous to each other as they are to the villagers.
I am not saying that there will or will not be another werecreature independent of the wolves in this game, just answering The Sixth Wizard's question.

But fex. a werebear should be a baddie who plays for her/his own, eg. apart from the "Wolfgang" (I've never played a werebear-game so this is just an impression) and a cobbler would be a villager who is otherwise innocent but wishes for the wolves to win. Lovers are two players of whom another is a goodie and another is a baddie and when one dies for whatever reason the other goes as well (they can normally PM during the game, within possible limitations). A birthday dreamer gets to dream of the role of someone in the game at a certain Night that is foretold to all and thence changes to the role of the one s/he has dreamt of. The Mythomaniac I don't remember right now but I think it had something to do with being a role where the one playing it could transform people to her/his side during the Nights... You others who have played a Mythomaniac-game might fill us all in doubt with this one... And Menel, maybe you should just settle for an average number of players? It might actually take pretty long time to fill this roster of twenty up as it seems that not all ww-players are too happy with too many surprises - I mean otherwise this would be full already? So please consider. EDIT: X'd with Menel...

I'll cut the number down to 18 for now, and will consider reducing that to 15 if things go on like this for too long.

I cannot look at this any more!
C'mon, people, this is really silly, you are coming here like cockroaches to the beer! (it's a Czech proverb. Does it exist in other languages, I wonder?) I cannot just stand and do nothing. Though I thought that it's not good to werewolfe (a verb - "to werewolfe" - past tense "werewolfed") too often, since it costs a lot of time and also the ministry of health warns you: Werewolfing may cause insomnia, paranoia and lycantrophy, I can't simply look at this. It is true I was also worried that this might be a too much big thing to bite into, with all these unknown roles and so on... but who cares. Sign me in! The only thing I would like is that the game started ASAP, since I just happen to have quite good timetable in the following week and if the game does not start until next week, I might have to retreat. So, I strongly recommend everyone to subscribe now!
Oh, and I am very glad that there would be occupations involved in this one. I like that. So, concerning occupation... could I be a Uruk chieftain in retirement? (Menel, if there is any trouble with the Uruk because of the story, then I'll of course be a Man and reconsider the occupation - so tell if this is a problem or not.)

A few updates:
Boromir88 has informed me that he will not be playing in this game, so I've removed his name from the list. Since the sign-up phase has been taking this long, I'm going to drop the required number of players to 15. That means we only need four more people to sign up before the game begins. Hopefully, we can get started soon.

Oh no...people are taking so long to sign up we're actually starting to lose players...
Have you tried PMing members, Menel? That seemed to work quite well for Mac's game. I know I wouldn't have joined if I hadn't gotten that PM...

I guess I should say my reasoning so everyone can understand...I regret not being able to participate in this game; it's not a time issue, I've been having health problems recently and don't think I can deal with the responsibility of a WW game. I regret not being able to play, as I greatly wanted to try the excitement of these 'mysterious roles,' but as some others have wisely told me my health is more important...and I'll be taking it slow for a while. Sorry again, I really wish I could play in this one.

I think that I would like some reason for you to call me the Sixth Wizard, therefore my occupation shall be Magician who is Lousy and Rubbish . Obviously judging by the 'lousy and rubbish' bit the Sixth Wizard is my name for myself not yours.

That's quite understandable, Boro. It's a pity though. I hope you'll get better.
Menel, if this game is going to be going on during the Easter weekend, I have to drop out. So maybe you'd better add a questionmark after my name. Quote:

Okay, I don't want to lose any more players, so I'll put it on pause over Easter weekend.
Would you rather have it stop on Thursday and resume on Monday, or would resuming it on Sunday work?
