Haldir, check out what I said on "which First" I seem to have picked up a new compilation of Tolkien's wrirings or an old one under a new name. Could really use everyone's help deciding the best order of reading.

1)The Return of the King
2)The Fellowship of the Ring 3)The Two Towers 4)The Hobbit I'm working on the Silmarillion now, so that will be placed when I'm done. I've never read Unfinished Tales. Haldir, what is it about the Hobbit that makes it your favorite?

you should read the Unfinished Tales,
I've just finished it, and it's much more better then The Silmarilon, unfortunetly, I read all those books on Hebrew (I live in Israel and my English isn't that good), so the only books that were translated are: The Hobbit, 3 books of LOTR, Silmarilion and Unfinished Tales (and that the order that most of the people read it) so, now I have no Tolkien Book to read [ March 22, 2002: Message edited by: Haldir ]

I thought the Silmarillion was sheer genius...I loved the rich and complex history and mythology that Tolkien wove in it and was duly impressed with the fact that he came up with complete geography, history, languages, and characters by himself. It really helped shed some light on the events the characters in LOTR referred to and why they behaved the way they did.Tolkien truly had a great mind and the Silmarillion confirmed that. I liked "The Two Towers" best. I especially liked the part with Shelob. (Which is ironic because I hate spiders )

About LotR... I just love the three of them. Each one has something that I like, probably because it´s just one huge book!
I can say that the Sil is my favourite, but I probably like it because I´ve already read LotR, hehe. I´m working on the Unfinished Tales and I like it very much so far.
