They are old, they are really old...
Today, our (when I say our here, I mean of the Barrow-Downs) old grumpy scholar turned 94 years old. Many a congratulation, best wishes and... (well, you know the traditional kit). Whom am I talking about? Fordim, of course, good ole' Fordim Hedgethistle
But don't you be lead into the belief he is the oldest. For, some days back (and I'm sorry an occurrence evaded my attention at its time), Kransha turned... guess what? 100! I failed to convince you? Take a look at the calendar! Happy birthdays, dear oldmen... But that was only a prologue. Here comes the main bulk of story: Bet you a dollar both are faking their ages?

Nah. It's for real. You can tell from their shaky signatures.

It would make the fact that Fordim is a new father rather more eye-opening for sure....

Wouldn`t it be cool to have a 100 year old BD? Now let`s guess their REAL ages.

My guess is that Kransha is 38 (in Ent years).
Heren Istarion is 9 (in Elf years). EDIT Kransha can beat me in nothing -- I built a faster than light ship and flew it through a wormhole to emerge on the other side six years older -- I am now 100 too. Huzzah for me!

In real life, I must admit that I believe the esteemed Prof. Hedgethistle Esq. has it over me in years. I will confess that I am but a year away from joining the Tolkien Coming of Age Club. I've been watching the thread chronically, just so I know what it's purpose is, other than proclaiming my senility. With the coming of September, I felt, as I usually do, smug, watching all the wee ones head off to their respective receptacles of education, but my working establishment has conscripted me once again. I'm back in business, and going strong, to prevent me from getting or feeling to old. I was able to enlist my oft mentioned younger brother in the business of Tolkien at an early age. I myself was not so lucky, which is why I have still not 'come of age.' Was that rambling necessary? I think not. Need I go on? I think not. Old Age brings evils upon mankind, say I, one of them being Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Excuse me while I play Vivaldi's Concerto in A Minor to get my stiff fingers working again...Hey, that reminds me of a funny story! It was the summer of '08, just after the invention of the wheel....

And you had to walk two miles throught the snow barefoot, uphill both ways, no doubt.

And as MY da relates it, apart from everything e_d just mentioned, the snow-trek involved carrying his little sister on his back and lugging around a 20 lb trombone case. Of course, with my own old age factored in... that would put dear ol' da's adventures some 140 years ago.

I know that you're really over 100 years old. I can tell because you've had your turn signal on for the past three hours. Are you turning to MIDDLE EARTH MIRTH or not?!?!
I'll bet you're sleeping right now, aren't you? SHOULD WE ALL START POSTING LOUDER, SO YOU CAN HEAR US? ~Maeg Hey, I hear there's a prune sale going on in the Shire's marketplace.

Bumping this up as an easy way of thanking all those who PM-ed me with birthday wishes. I had thought to reply to each individually, but -- well -- time is not on my side these days, so...
Thanks very much to: Formendacil The Only Real Estel Glirdan The Perky Ent Gurthang Bethberry Encaitare Mithalwen dancing spawn of Ungoliant Feanor of the Peredhil Holbytlass wilwarin538 and Boromir88 for the birthday wishes on my tenty-first birthday! (Thanks to Mith for that one.) The birthday cake is over there on the sideboard, and there's a large table of mathoms in the corner to which you are free to help yourselves.
