A More challenging Name Game
How about a Name Game with a more difficult rule?
1) Whoever starts a game round determines how that round is limited. For example: if a round starts with Feanor, then only elf names can be used. If with Bree, then only place names, if with Grisnakh, then only baddies, etc. The starter of the round could, if necessary, stipulate the limiting factor. 2) Other then that, the same rule, next name begins with the last letter of the word before. 3) Last one to post a correct answer with no further correct responses for say (three days? if that's a good limiting time, the exact time could be up for discussion) is deemed to have won that round and can start a new round. 4) Nicknames of characters are permitted (ex. Pippin and Peregrin can both be used). 5) Titles of characters are permitted (ex. both Galadriel and Lady of the Wood). Well, if there's interest, how about starting with a real SB: Lobelia Last edited by Tuor of Gondolin; 08-06-2004 at 12:18 PM. |

Looks promising
OK, I'll bite.
Andwise I'm assuming the topic is Hobbits' names generally, rather than just female Hobbits' names (as otherwise I'm stumped). And, by the way, three days sounds good to me.

Yep. Hobbits. Good or bad, male or female, young or old, etc.......
(had to look up Andwise). here's a thought. Should both the nickname and name of a hobbit be permitted (that is, Merry and Meriadoc)? Elanor. Daughter of the nassty, fat hobbit. |

So, now I have to give a hobbit name, so how about the mother of Elanor: Rosie

By "repeats" if you mean the identical name, I don't think so. otherwise a round would never end. I know "Andy" is tough, but I may have an acceptable name.
But if challenged, it's open to removal. How about "Young Tom Cotton"? In The scouring of the Shire he's mentioned as one of Farmer Cotton's children by that appelation. Oh, and nicknames are okay. In the same round, for example, Merry and Meriadoc could be used. By the by, an interesting category in the future could be women/girls. |

Sorry about that! I'll try not to do it again. Anyways, how about Nob, one of the servants of Barliman Butterbur

What's to be sorry about? A good question.
I'd love to say "Bingo", but JRRT (thankfully) changed that plot person. Bilbo! Last edited by Tuor of Gondolin; 07-27-2004 at 08:51 PM. |

Uh Oh. Another "Y".
The saucepan man is tricksey. We musn't play the riddle game with him, precious. Hmm. This will take some thought. Has TSM won the first round? Stay tuned! Last edited by Tuor of Gondolin; 07-27-2004 at 09:51 PM. |

Yes, Saucepan is quite clever, but I think I have a solution. I don't know if this works, so please tell me if it doesn't! Young Master, the title the Innkeeper gave to Frodo at first glace. If this doesn't work, please say so!

Hmm, since the category is Hobbit names, I am not sure that titles should be allowed.
However, a name previxed with "young" would be acceptable, provided that it is used within the text. Now, I'm sure that there must be a few of those ...

Actually, I was rather hoping for a proper Hobbit name to follow Old Toby.
Oh well ... Chica Chubb

Wait, Tuor, isn't that what Firefoot already said, Nick Cotton? Hmm...K's. Without Kalimac, there really isn't anything else. There's Kuduk, the Westron name for Hobbits, but it doesn't specify a person! I think you're the stumper Firefoot!

Okay. If interested, Firefoot can start a new round. Just be sure to specify the category.
The trick may be to make it somewhat specific but yet broad enough to be a game for a while. For example, I might have made the above category something like "hobbit nouns", although that sounds awful, to include place names, titles, and hobbit names.
