Sting Aragorn's Blade

I was just watching the fellowship on the first dvd and noticed that aragorn wields a sword on weathertop. But the shards of narsil are in rivendell in the movie-is this an oversight, or, if not, what is the blade carried by aragorn?

Ah! My favorite annoyance with the movie!
For some obscenely stupid reason, the screenwriters decided to get rid of Andúril in the first movie (except a deleted scene which explains Aragorn thinking he isn't worthy to wield Narsil). The sword on Weathertop (and the rest of the movie) was just a normal sword. What hell this will wreak in TTT and RotK is unknown, but supposeldy Arwen brings Andúril to Helm's Deep (which will be my new favorite annoyance....if it happens).

Good points, Manwe, you post well...Also, if aragorn isnt worthy whi is? ANd also, Arwen wouldn't be able to get to helm's deep unnoticed, so if that indeed happens in TTT, I have something new to toss and turn over

I did notice the discrepancy when he drew his sword as Sam burst into the rooma at Bree. But if you think about it, it really makes a lot of sense! Why would a Ranger such as Aragorn, Isildor's heir though he be, carry such a priceless relic and treasure to the peoples of Middle-Earth around on his rugged travels? Plus, as a Ranger, he would need a real sword for defense/protection in his travels. He would be stupid to walk around the Wilds with a broken sword. I realize Tolkien had it that way, but I think it made a bit more sense in the movie.
But if Arwen comes to Helm's Deep (and I think she does) then I will be irritated as well.
