Sting Faces everywhere

Can you imagin being one of the actors of LOTR and walking into the house of a LOTR freak (sorry for the name)? its one thing seeing your face around the shops, but in someones home? Personaly, I have several posters of the actors, and countless pictures. But can you imagin seeing a room full of photos, models, lifesize cardboard cutouts etc of yourself. Spooky, dont you think?

That would bother me. I could never imagine seeing my face hanging in someone's house, especially if it was a total stranger. I could never watch myself on camera either. I'd find a problem with every single thing I did.

I used to own a very nice Obi Wan. But one day I realised how disgusted Alec Guinness would have been, and in a fit of guilt gave it away. But that said, a lot of actors even own the figures of themselves. I'm sure most of the cast of LOTR do. Just so long as you don't have heaps and heaps of pictures of the one person like in a stalker movie! You're alright, though, Niphredil, your nick doesn't have the words "orly", "hot" or "legolas" in them. I think those are the people that the actors should be scared of!

I have a few posters in my room...music ones as well as a Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers poster. I'd probably have more pictures of the hobbits and Legolas if I made the effort to print them off the Net or buy a poster, but it's not really a major concern of mine.

I guess it would be pretty bizarre if you walked into someone's house and there were pictures of you plastered all over their walls, but then again...they're movie stars! They should expect that people would idolize them and stick their pictures up all around them.
I used to be friends with this one girl who had shots of pretty much every single popular movie star you could think of. It looked really tacky actually.
I also remember reading in an interview of Dominic Monaghan that they asked him if he had a figurine of himself and he replied that he didn't, saying that he thought that would be very egocentric. So...there ya go.

I have seen pictures of rooms of other people who are fans of other things. And they have like every picture ever taken of the person, group, etc. When I became a fan of LOTR I though I was going show my fandom much more tastefully. The only thing that I really have from LOTR that is noticeable is my poster that I have in my room. I look at it as more of an art piece than a tacky piece. It is framed in a wood leaf patterned frame, it is the final poster from FOTR (though my sister refuses to sit in front of it because she does not like Elijah Wood) I don't think the actors would be bothered with what I have in my house, because it is very similar to what they would probably have in there homes (Like Elijah Wood says he owns his own action figures because he is a fan of action figures, I think that would be kind of weird)

**shudder**
It would be scary.
My friend wanted a life size cardboard cutout of Legolas (what there's a difference?). I was horrified. Personally, I find falling in love with actors you have never met is silly, because you don't know who they are in their own life.
(meanwhile, I think to myself, "I hope none of the Beatles step into my room.....with that new poster...")

quote:
life size cardboard cutout of Legolas (what there's a difference?)

Oooooh!!! Mreow! I love it! Blue, I'd hate to be the one to check your PMs. Those Legolas fans are rabid, I warn you. I tried to make fun of his confused face after Gandalf dies, but no dice. Apparently he's every bit the actor that Sean Astin and Elijah Wood are. Prediction: Mark Hamill Syndrome.
I think that to own posters of your favourite stars is fine. For music groups and sportspeople it's even more understandable, because they're not just playing a character, you're worshipping them for what they really are (supposedly). I can't see anything wrong with it, but it's a fine line as to how much is too much. Course, I'm hardly one to talk given the number of Tolkien books on my shelf. Hey, at least it's not heroin.

I personally don't idolize single actors. My addiction to LOTR is strictly on the literature, rather than the actors that portray the characters in the story line. I have a collage of every article, comic, and picture relating in any way to LOTR in my room and that does include pictures of the actors.
If an actor walked into my room they would comment on the fact that I have a lot of LOTR collectibles and not the fact that I have many pictures, from the movie, of the actors.
I don't think it would bother them, but since I am not an actor I really have no clue. Wouldn't they be more honored than "scared"?

quote:
Apparently he's every bit the actor that Sean Astin and Elijah Wood are. Prediction: Mark Hamill Syndrome.

I don't know about the future for Orlando Bloom, but Sean Astin is already beyond the Mark Hamill syndrome. He's been in many movie before this, and was already quite well known for "Rudy".
The same might be said for Elijah Wood, since he's been in lots of movies since he was young. Orlando is really the only one who had his first role in LotR. The other two already had established careers.
So your prophecy is slightly hindered by the past...
I think I read somewhere that Dominic Monaghan gave his action figure to "his cousins" to play with. I hope they like him, and don't practice voodoo.
I got a set of playing cards with movie pictures on it for my birthday, and I have to store it in a drawer because the picture of Elijah Wood on the tin makes me uncomfortable. So my room is devoid of actor's faces. I do, however, have pictures of my cats, and they never seemed to mind.

Sorry, Diamond, I take almost full responsibility for your having misconstrued my thoughts. Sean Astin and Elijah Wood are both fine actors, especially Elijah (although as can be seen on other threads I have problems with the portrayal of Sam in the movies). The scene after Gandalf's death, in particular, is one of the ones which draws my praise for them. It was only Orlando whose acting skills I was calling into question. So when you say,

quote:
So your prophecy is slightly hindered by the past...

Perhaps in your own future you could quote a little less selectively, maybe:

quote:
I tried to make fun of his confused face after Gandalf dies, but no dice. Apparently he's every bit the actor that Sean Astin and Elijah Wood are.

In which I meant that Orlando Bloom fans were trying to defend his shallow performance, which in my opinion would be to take away from the superior talents of Sean and Elijah. I love Elijah Wood, especially in these movies, and I'd be happy to have a few pictures of him on my wall or desktop. He's an excellent Frodo.

Okay, now I see. I thought you were lumping the three of them into the same category (or I should say four, counting Young Skywalker) and making that prediction for the careers of all of them. My mistake, I missed the sarcasm in "apparently".

quote:
I tried to make fun of his confused face after Gandalf dies, but no dice.

So thats what that was! I find it hard to distinguish between his facial expressions
No, actualy I totaly agree that Orlando was every bit the actor that the others where. He really did himself justice, and I cant wait for Pirates of the Carribean.
But I also agree that there is something spooky about having Elijah Woods face staring down at you when you are trying to get to sleep. You cant get rid of the feeling of someone watching you!

*shudders* I would have nightmares if I had pictures of any actors on my wall.... It's too creepy, having complete strangers staring at you while you sleep.
I wouldn't think it would be strange to see pictures of myself all over people's walls if I was a movie star. I'd think of it as a compliment, actually. I just wouldn't look at all the pictures because I can find something bad about every picture that's ever been taken of me.
I couldn't stand having an figurine of myself, though. That would just be way too weird!
[ January 21, 2003: Message edited by: Galadrie1 ]
