Death of David Collings
So very sorry to say that David Collings who played Legolas in the BBC Radio Adaptation died suddenly yesterday morning aged 79 years.
I was mesmerised by his beautiful, distinctive voice at first hearing and as ell as regularly relistening to the recordings I have enjoyed hearing it in many other radio roles and on television (Silver in Sapphire and Steel), and film (39 steps, song of summer). In other times I would have said I was devastated but in the midst of current events and with a recent sudden personal bereavement, that is too strong but I do feel it as a grief and a loss. Tolkien has been so much a part of my life and David Collings was a key figure in drawing me in to Middle Earth that along with Bernard Cribbins. May his shade take the straight road. Namarië.
