Silmaril In the Akallabeth.....

In the Akallabeth: When Sauron humbled himself before Ar-Pharazon and went as his "prisoner" back to Numenor, what became of the ring? Did Sauron take it with him to Numenor, or was it left in the care of the Nazgul? If so, how did he stand to be seperated from it for so long?
