Gratitude/Get a Grip
The purpose of this thread is ambivalent. For those who have read HoME Series and also T.A.Shippeys' books, it offers opportunity to express their gratitude towards those two - C.R.Tolkien and T.A.Shippey, who, as is my honest opinion, performed great job in publishing books I mention below. Many a thank you to them
For those who haven't, it is recommending those books as worth (and worth indeed) reading. One of the ways of obtaining then is the following: J.R.R.Tolkien, Author of the Century by T.A.Shippey History of Middle-Earht Series edited by Christopher Tolkien Learn and enjoy Sincerely, [ December 24, 2002: Message edited by: HerenIstarion ]

I haven't read Author of the Century, but the HoME series is very impressive, even if it is flogging a dead horse a little.
Oh yeah H-I are you on the payrole of Amazon by any chance? Edit: I just re-read my post, and I dont think I expressed it enough. Thankyou the HoME is wonderful, and I think I would have given my two front teeth to get hold of the Lay of Leithien if they hadn't published it. [ December 24, 2002: Message edited by: Galorme ]

Many a thankyou indeed! It's rare enough that people like a book enough to read drafts and commentaries (and yes, it can be hard reading), but the very fact that someone so close to the author has the dedication C.R.Tolkien has to keep going through near-illegible documents and publishing so many books for us die-hards. He truly is one in a billion.

Well at 10 pounds a book (about twice what they should be) they have to be good.

I started reading HoME, but stopped when I realized the books were more complex than my schoolbooks. I'm not saying that is necessarily a bad thing, but I am not ready to take on that kind of serious reading right now. It's nice to have alot to look forward to when it comes to Tolkiens writing, though. If C.R.Tolkien and T.A.Shippey hadn't published the series, Tolkien discussion would be alot different. There could be no 'The New Silmarillion' section of this forum So ofcourse people are greatful (Including me in the future).
